From youth to old age.
I CROSSED A BRIDGE

Oft when I was very young, I'd cross a bridge of tumbled stone.
Of hero’s deed and fearless run, the faintest whisper of ages old.
To stand so proud, the time was here, I turned my face into the sun.
And walked throughout the coming years, through season’s change a man has come.

I knew not when the moment turned, from boy to man the change unclear.
I walked the roads that led me true. My wisdom learned from year to year.
The bridge, it lingers soft, uncertain,  as like the scent of springtime flowers.
And oft to lead a merry chase, to ponder in my twilight hours.

A misspent youth, my joy and freedom. The world a small and simple game.
Turned sour with a father lost. His memory in a wooden frame.
And so I stood to fill the void, my heart prepared to wear the blow.
A challenge made for me to tame. The truth of which I could not know.

So to the call of arms I pledged my life, my honor and then my blood.
And battled with the garden hedge just waiting for the war come.
Since then I’ve been back to that bridge and crossed its worn and tumbled way.
And stood there gazing remembering her the sadness, when she went away.

But life she is a dear old lass and me a mortal man alas.
I’ve walked her hallways, fledgling years, and cried her sorrow’s bitter tears.
Though still my youth it calls to me, the bridge, a path that leads to hope.
But trembling what lives underneath a Troll or maybe Lycanthrope.

But no it’s just the same old bridge with tumbled rock and trickling stream.
And though I walk my life ahead, I’m still a man and still I dream.
But dreaming is as dreaming does, you cannot live on dreaming’s breath.
My heart will change for good and bad and so shall beat unto my death.

No trumpet fare to heal my ribs. A lesson learned on broken stones.
The years, they fell away behind. A toll was spent on weary bones.
Alone I stood , the bridge forgotten as like a dream of memory past.
And wondered at the fading light. The dying day and shadows cast.

The end will find me soft and quiet. A welcome peace upon my soul.
With flame to show the path ahead. As boy and man I heed the call.
To rest within a breathless moment. Upon my lips a lilting song
I walked the roads from boy to man. Through seasons change a man has gone.
