the Godless night
how cold the wind
how lonely the world

If Jesus
had not shed his light
If he had not died
upon the cross
how torn would be our souls
by our sins

Each movement
each flicker of an eyelid
each breath
for what
for nothing

no prayers no praise
within our heads
no wish to serve
no cross to kneel before
no joy
no real pleasure
and worst of all no love

oh thank you lord
for loving me
for choosing me
for dying for me
