Poem I wrote about the drug laws.
The cops never used to scare me
I always thought they were quite fair, really
Driving round, hunting criminals down
Keep 'em off the street, sounds good to me

They never really used to affect me
I actually thought they were there to protect me!

Silly girl!
Drugs are illegal!
Makes ME a criminal!
Just to score I have to break the law
And fraternise with at least one known felon - usually more
The cops know more than we give them credit for
They probably followed me from the train, watched me score

They probably know how much I paid
And when I last got laid

Here's my big confession:
I've been done for 'possession' four times
This is the total extent of my crimes
But now everything's changed
The police know my name
I'm stopped and searched again and again

They even arrested me on my way to court!
Some narc in the park out for a lark
Stopped - searched - throw the book - treat me like a crook

So I slink through the streets, trackmarks not showing
Still no guarantee I'll get where I'm going

Sometimes I wonder, you know...
I'm actually quiet and law abiding
It just feels so stupid to be lurking and hiding
Isn't there something better they can do with their time?
I mean, arrest someone actually committing a crime?

So yeah - the cops do scare me now
Because now I'm the criminal they get paid to hunt down
