A poem about loneliness.

You can see it in their eyes,
In the way their shoulders slump.
You can hear the silent cries
In their voices as they grump.

The widows and widowers,
The orphans and the homeless,
Those who’ve lost their lovers,
Lonely people among us.

Alone and isolated,
Memories their only friend.
Cut off and amputated
With sorrows that never end.

Stricken ones will turn within,
Intent on separation,
Move to drink instead of men,
Take drugs for consolation.

Passing time can heal some wounds,
A good friend can empathize.
But sometimes the fallen runes,
Forecast things unseen with eyes.

Loneliness has a reason,
Time to heal is its intent.
How our lives continue on,
To rise up or remain bent.

The resolution is here
Within ourselves all along.
We, again, must learn to care
Think of others and be strong.

Life moves on, the saying goes,
With our input or without.
What will happen no one knows,
Only we can change the route.
