A poem describing the recent earthquake in Yushu, China. |
Yushu Earthquake – 14 April 2010 The earth lifted it's shoulders, the ground shuddered, buildings were flattened, lives snuffed out Life would never be the same in sleepy Yushu, the area now a waste land Hopes, dreams, all dissolved as soft mist that dresses the surrounding mountain tops How does the largely Tibetan Community cope, can a new tomorrow arise out of the rubble This was question that all thought, none dared to utter Day one came to an end, the mercury fell, the earth offered up an encore Icy fear gripped the heart's of the people, another taste of hell Little water, little food, precious little hope Who are the survivors, those whose hearts beat, or those who sleep the long sleep Will help arrive, fear numbing the mind, draining the soul The Tibetans were not abandoned, their suffering and loss, tore at the heart of the nation Soldiers, monks, heavy equipement, the rank and file, dug into the earth to re-claim their own A race track became a tent city, the injured were treated, the fit camped out Throughout the day and night, and the days to come The earth grudgingly gave up the living and the dead Time is a good friend, it drags all into the future, willing or despondent The rising dawn will make it's return, locals will try to make peace with their loss Life will slither along as it has done for centuries |
