Bo's misadventure continued
It turned out that where the girl was going was in fact a platform of some sort (or a train platform to you and me) and she was now waiting patiently for something to come along for her. Bo didn’t know exactly what she was waiting for, and at this time he didn’t particularly care so long as she didn’t actually let go of him or leave him behind.

After a while there was a slight rumble in the ground and for a second the bear was reminded of the delivery van that he had been put in at the start of our story. But there was a different quality to the sound to it, almost like the screeching of a bird along with the rumble.

After a while, Bo could just make out the outline of a very large metal thing that had pulled up in front of the girl that she was now walking into. It was like a huge snake and she was just letting it eat her!

“No! Don’t you dare! You get out of here right now! You are not to be eaten!” thought Bo fretfully, but as it turned out he had nothing to worry about. The girl didn’t seem to be in any immediate trouble of being eaten, in fact she sat down on a chair and proceeded to make herself very comfortable by pulling out a lead of some sort of putting the two ends of it into her ears. From his place in the bag Bo could just about make out the drums of the music she was now playing.

The girl then looked into her bag and took out the card and looked at it thoughtfully, a smile playing on her lips as she looked at the message on the front of the card before putting it back and taking Bo out himself and looking at him again. Again she was very gentle about the whole thing, taking care not to hold his little paws too tightly and even fluffing up the fur on top of his head. A little shock of happiness went through the little bears head as she did this.

“Well, now it’s time to get you home and then get everything ready,” said the girl before smiling and sitting him back into the bag, however opening it unintentionally so that he could actually see what was happening out of the bag.

There was a window next to the girl and through it Bo could see that they were actually moving very fast through an area with a little hill on the side and a fence at the top.

“Surely we’re moving a bit too fast,” thought Bo, but then the girl didn’t seem concerned at all by the speed, in fact she seemed to quite enjoy it and closed her eyes for a second to enjoy the ride whilst giggling to herself every now and then for reasons that he had no idea about.

Note: She didn’t quite know what she was laughing about either.

After a little while the contraption seemed to stop somewhere, and Bo thought that they were going to get out now, but the girl didn’t seem to make any move to get out herself, instead she got a bit more comfortable and shrunk into her little corner next to the window.

Through the window Bo looked with interest as he saw people running frantically about this way and that, some with small bags strapped to their warms some with absolutely huge bags across their backs and some carrying impossibly large trunks with them.

Further note: They’d stopped at an airport.

After what seemed like an awfully long time to stop in one place for something that moved so fast the contraption started moving again. It was only then that the girl opened her blue eyes and wider and started to make signs of getting ready to move.

“What on earth are you thinking girl! We’re still moving. Surely you’re not intending to get out of this thing whilst we’re moving!?” But then the girl seemed to quite enjoy the speed of the thing, maybe he’d landed himself with someone who liked those types of things.

“Well,” he thought, “As long as you don’t get hurt yourself, I’m okay with it I guess.”

After five minutes the girl got up and started to get herself ready, putting the little thing the lead in her ears was attached to securely in her pocket and then picking up the bag and walking to the mouth of the big snake again.

“Oh dear, here we go,” thought Bo, “We’re going to jump out and it’s going to be awfully fast and painful.” And the little bear braced himself for the jump…and braced himself for a little longer, but it never came.

“What on earth is going on?” thought the teddy confusedly. If they weren’t going to jump out now then why on earth had the girl gotten out of her chair and was now stood in front of the doors?

The answer came when the snake came to a very abrupt halt at the next stop and the girl then opened the door and exited very safely, much to the relief of the concerned bear.

“Well thank goodness for that,” he thought, “I thought you were actually going to hurt yourself for a second there, and I can tell you something for nothing,” he thought in a matter of fact way as though she could hear him, “I would have not been very impressed or happy at all if you had got hurt you know.”

From the little platform the two of them then proceeded to walk up what felt like some sort of gentle incline. Well I say the two of them, what I actually mean was that the black haired girl was carrying Bo in the bag and was walking up the incline herself as she wasn’t to know the thoughtful package that she was actually carrying around with her.

The rest of the trip was a bit of a blur for the little bear. First the outside of the bag seemed to be lined with smaller buildings and then it seemed to completely taken over with trees for a while and then there was nothing but the odd building now and then. But the pale girl seemed to know exactly where she was going and he’d trusted her this far so no reason to stop now.

Finally, the girl seemed to get to the place where she wanted to be and pulled out a little metal thing from her pocket and placed it into a door and opened it all by herself. The little bear couldn’t help but be amazed, “Clever you! Oh well done! I couldn’t have done that even if I’d wanted to, these stubby paws you see.” Of course she didn’t hear this but it comforted him a lot to think that she could actually hear him.

It was only after they walked through the door that Bo then thought that maybe this girl was actually going to be the one to finally finish him off forever. You see they had walked through the door and he was just feeling very content about being with this pretty girl with the multi-coloured hair when something very large and very excited started bouncing around everywhere and biffing his bag with a lot of force.

“OH GOD WHAT IS THAT!? OH WHAT IS THAT!? YOU’RE GOING TO KILL ME! YOU’RE GOING TO LET IT EEEATTT MEE!!!” thought Bo with a teary sound to his voice, even though he couldn’t actually cry.

But instead of being pleased by the bouncing things reaction the girl got quite annoyed, “OZZY! Get, DOWN!” There was a whimper in the background and the large sniffing thing went away and the bashing sensation went away.

“Hello Tilly,” said the girl suddenly, a softer tone in her voice that the little bear much preferred, and she knelt down and through the gap in the bag the little bear could see the girl was now scratching some form of black and white animal with a very long tongue behind the ears. Whatever she was doing the creature seemed to quite happy with the treatment.

“Surely you’re not going to feed me to this one?” thought Bo for a moment before quickly dismissing this thought as the pale faced girl then proceeded to walk up the stairs and through another door before placing the bag with Bo in it on something very large and springy.

“Well…this feels quite nice actually,” thought Bo, “It certainly beats cold shelves at any rate.” He enjoyed the warmth of the material underneath the bag before turning his attention back to the girl.

She was walking back and forth in front of him, taking off her jacket and walking to a little device in front of her and when she pressed the buttons in the right way suddenly the room was filled with a pounding music that Bo was surprised to find that he actually really quiet liked. He would have bopped his head along with the rhythm if he actually had the motor functions.

Finally the girl walked back over the bag and picked the bear gently up out of the bag and placed him on what he found was actually quite a comfy assortment of fabrics along with the card beside him. She smiled again at him, sending a little rivulet of happiness around his small bear brain again before sitting down beside him and ruffling the fur on the top of his head again.

“Well,” thought the bear, very happily, “If this is what I have in store for me for the rest of my little cotton life I don’t think I’ll much mind.” And with that he settled himself down in his own mind and started to sleep, and instead of dreaming of cotton fields and girl bears he was now dreaming of spending days having his fur ruffled by the pretty blue eyed girl with all the fantastic colours in her hair and being quite happy about the fact.

Pity he didn’t’ realize that things were about to get very different. Very quickly.

It was about an hour into his new life with his multi-coloured haired girl and Bo had to admit, he was rather enjoying himself. His fur was well ruffled by soft hands and he was getting more attention than he ever had in that dingy little hell hole of a warehouse. In fact, he was starting to view the whole warehouse scene as merely an ugly little episode in his little life and that everything was just going to be perfect and fine now. Oh dear, I do hate to disappoint people.

His pale girl was reading a huge book on the bed next to him, something to do with something called ‘law’ and she was staring intently at the words on the page whilst at the same time scribbling frantically onto a piece of paper at her other side. Now and then she’d lean forward and her lips would mouth a certain word once or twice before writing again. Bo found these little intervals fascinating and was quite glad that she’d put him at an angle so he could watch it all.

After a while though, Bo began to hear something very strange. A bubbling sound that seemed almost to rumble slightly through the bed and subsequently his little paws. His owner girl seemed to notice it too, because she kept holding her stomach and looking at it with an almost annoyed expression on her face before continuing with her work.

“I wonder how long she can ignore that for?” thought Bo. Even if he did have a belly, he thought that he’d get to the bottom of a sound like that pretty quick because it didn’t sound like a pleasant experience to have in one’s tummy at all.

After a few more grumbles this rang true and, with a sigh of exasperation, his owner got off the bed,” Fine I’ll feed you,” she said to her stomach before leaving her book and the little bear along behind a closed door.

Now I’m sorry to be mean and make you feel any worse for the little bear but to be quite honest when she said those words and left through the door a variety of things popped into Bo’s head.

Firstly that, because she’d left him so soon after she’d got him that his wonderful girl didn’t actually want him all that much and that he in fact didn’t matter. However, this proved too painful to think about and so he thought of other options to think of. The second more rational option, and therefore the actual reason that it was, was simply that she had left the room for a short while and would be returning soon. You see? A little tender love and care and already the bear has started thinking in a less depressing way…for however long this will last.

It was just beginning to get to the point where Bo thought that the girl had been gone for a very long time when he heard something that he knew immediately wasn’t quite right.

At first it was only a few squeaks, nothing to be really concerned about, just sounds that you could often find in any domestic environment. But when there was a horrible scraping lurch and the bear could feel a cold breeze coming in from the now open window he couldn’t help but get a bit worried. Granted he was a very new bear to this world but he had enough common sense to know that windows don’t open on their own.

He stared at the portal to the outside world with nervous terror for a moment. “This isn’t right,” he thought to himself, “Surely this can’t lead to anything good.” Then as loud as he could think, “OWNER GIRL, PLEASE COME BACK!!!”

But it was no good because, of course, he didn’t have a choice to actually get her attention and also no good because several fluffy grey animals were bouncing into the room with a cunning look in all of their beady little eyes as they looked intently around the room before their eyes feel on the bear.

“Oh lord,” he thought, “They’ve come for me. I know they have.” And of course he was right because, quick as a flash, the little grey things were upon him and scuttling him away to the open window quite against his will. He tried to fight he really, really did I can assure you, but remember that at this point he really can’t move anything from his head to his stubby little feet.

“No, I don’t to go,” he screamed in his head, “Please don’t take me away from my pretty new owner PLEASEE!” But the squirrels, for that is what they were, didn’t hear his thoughts. And even if they did I really doubt they would have paid much attention to him anyway, they had a mission to do after all.

A short while later the girl would return to he room with a sandwich in hand and notice how odd it was that her window was open and close it herself before looking onto the bed and feeling a stab of something roughly akin to shock and fear as she realised her new bear had disappeared altogether.

Bo wanted to cry, he really did. And this time it wasn’t because of a physical pain, or the abuse of the black clad people in the shop. For the first time in his little life he had been well and truly happy and he had bee loved, and had loved in return even for a short while and now he was being taken away from it. He was devastated and angry and he tried to so much as wiggle in the squirrels paws but he couldn’t move even a little bit.

On and on they went, bouncing over fences and scurrying up the trees always getting higher and higher into the thickets above. Poor Bo, all the way up his little fuzzy face was being scratched and slapped with the branches that were rushing to meet him o all sides but the horrible pests didn’t much care for his trials and kept right on going.

“Nearly there m’boys,” said one of the rodents in a tone of voice that Bo found very displeasing even in his current predicament. It sounded like the type of voice that would make you think that the squirrels didn’t have a brain cell to rub together.

Fact: In fact he was quite right…about these squirrels at any rate. There are other more intelligent squirrels but we’ll get back to them in another story.

Bo was wondering just where ‘there’ was when finally, after a burst through some rather dense foliage that left Bo almost happy he couldn’t open his mouth, they emerged into the tree top world above.

If it hadn’t been for the circumstances of his arrival the little bear might have actually found the view to be quite spectacular. Leaves and twigs of all sizes had been shaped in little towers and structures as high as the very top of the tree and there were little walkways spinning and spinning all the way through the branches and upon them, little squirrels were bouncing this way and that to get a look at what was being brought into their kingdom.

Everywhere in Bo’s vision he could see little shining eyes looking at him in positive glee, and he really didn’t much care for it or know what was so funny or so great bout him coming her. In fact he thought it was pretty awful, and it was with a stab of painful regret that his mind was plagued with all the lovely memories that he’d got with his short time with his new multi-coloured haired girl.

Now you might think that this is quite sentimental for a bear who’s only known a person for a couple of hours at best but you try being ten inches tall and see how important the little things become to you then, eh?

‘You brought sumthin’ for us there Chips?” shouted a voice from somewhere around Bo. Even without the squeakiness of the voice Bo could tell that this voice was female and steadily getting closer to the little bear procession.

“Just a bit Nutelda,” chirruped the one who was apparently Chips, a stern looking type of squirrel, lean with the practise of jumping from branch to branch each and every day.

“And where did you get this ‘ere little rag tag from?” enquired the uncouth voice of the female.

“Shooter’s daughter’s room,” said Chips, his idiotic voice literally dripping with pride of his accomplishment. And apparently he ought to, because there was a sudden intake of breath all around the clearing as every squirrel looked to his or her partner to confer the news I a game of tree top Chinese whispers.

“WASSAT!?” cried a voice from somewhere behind Bo. Instead of the squeaky voice of the rest of the animals this voice sounded more like it was wheezing from sort of bad cough or something. But then Bo thought that its owner was just trying to pass off a gruffer voice as best he could with his little diminutive squeak.

Note: He was bang on.

All of a sudden the whispering stopped and everything suddenly became deadly quiet in the tree top kingdom. And Bo didn’t like this anymore than he did the constant squeaking of the cruel little animals before hand.

“Wassat?” roared (or rather loudly squeaked) the voice again as Bo could hear little paw falls get steadily closer and closer to him and the squirrels around him. He could just barely make out from under his eyes that all the squirrels were in fact bowing everywhere. So the voice must have some importance there and in fact it did. Because the voice belonged to Bucktooth Dave.

Now instead of allowing for a great evil monologue later on which is invariably going to take all the good people’s time whilst reading this and result in the tedious boredom that usually comes with a monologue I am instead going to tell you Bucktooth Dave’s story and explain just who this mysterious Shooter is.

Bucktooth Dave actually started out as your pretty run of the mill squirrel. He gallivanted in branches and teased cats and dogs alike on a daily basis as well as any of the few predatory birds that came sneaking around and all in all, in fairness, he was rather good at it.

He was part of one of the larger families of the squirrel kingdom, what with the excessive inbreeding and such as lets face it there isn’t much to do when you’re a squirrel living amongst the same people day in and day out and rather unfortunately not many foreign squirrels come a’ calling. Ew. But I guess as far as the squirrel hierarchy went he was pretty much ruling the roost.

Until one fated day he signed up for a new mission to terrorise the people of the world. Rumour had it that, just beyond the tree line, a family had set up decking and all manner of such nice things to make their garden look nice and as anyone will tell you, squirrels just can’t stand anyone else having a good time.

The mission was simple, infiltrate and destroy as much s you can pull up with your little paws or sink your little teeth into, Pretty simple work when it came down to it and very easy and that is probably why Bucktooth Dave took it in the first place, lazy boy that he was. Heaven forbid that he should do so much as a hard day’s graft.

In any case the first day of the mission was quite a routine day. The entrance was simple and well thought out and the pickings were ripe and within that day they had caused quite a stir amongst the humans that lived there in the house with the garden. Even as they ran away they could hear the yells of the women as they saw what had happened and the roar of the father figure of the home. The little grey rodents were giggling all the way.

The next time however, things were not so simple or as easy as Bucktooth Dave would have liked.

They entered in easily enough, and they were just about to rip the place apart when all of a sudden things started to get very, very hot and heavy.

Out of nowhere, through the French double doors of the living room the father came out of the house with something in his hands. Something long and silver looking with a hole in the end. Whilst they should have been taught this in squirrel school the squirrels there that day, including Bucktooth Dave were in fact skiving the day that the teacher explained all about ‘air rifles’.

Once they realised just what the little pellets from the gun could do the squirrels broke away into the trees. All of course expect old Bucktooth. He was a wise guy and no stranger to bellowing (squeaking oaths) to enemies (once he was a good way out of harms way that is) and he just couldn’t resist turning back to shout something at the human.

‘One day you’ll regret this yer wand totin…’ he didn’t get to finish the threat there and then because just at that moment the father figure had taken aim and shot at the squirrel and caught him in the eye. Half blindness was immediate and it was only because he had his crew with him that Bucktooth managed to get out of there at all.

Shortly after the male human put the gun away before being harassed by one of the women in the house. A girl with a pale face, strikingly blue eyes and various colours in her hair.

Yes dear reader, I’m afraid that the male figure is in fact Bo’s beloved owner. But unless of course you are a member of some animal organisation you will agree that there isn’t much sympathy to be found for squirrels who mess up your hard work. Regardless this is why Bo is now in the captivity of the squirrels and is currently in a very perilous situation.

A lot of days later, after being tied up and sent to jail, after being clocked around the head, after being shouted at, Bo was finally confronted with the one eyed and ugly face of Bucktooth Dave.

“Does it talk, does it?” said Bucktooth leering into Bo’s face with impudent malice. It was a good thing that Bo didn’t have a sense of smell because otherwise he would have been forced to feel quite green due to the fact that squirrels don’t tend to have very nice breath, bad hygiene and all that comes with it.

Poor Bo, he was tied to a chair, even though he couldn’t move, and he was forced to stare into the ugly and gammy eye of this leader whilst being surveyed from top to bottom by this disgusting rodent.

“I really want my colourful girl to come and save me,” he thought morosely, “She’d come, she’d beat all these squirrels up and then she’d cuddle me and kiss me and play with my hair and make sure that I was always going to be ok.” But when Bucktooth began prodding him and poking him everywhere with undue care Bo really didn’t like the chances of that happening.

“Nah Bucktooth, however we could make it ‘appen,” said Chips, looking at Bo meaningfully with a sharpened twig in his hand before pulling himself together, “But before that there’s summit we need to talk to you abou’.”

“Wha’? What is it now?” said Bucktooth his bad eye crinkling further in frustration whilst his good eye portrayed his anger.

“Well it’s just that we got news that Stumpy’s heading this way.”

This statement meant absolutely nothing to Bo of course, however to Bucktooth it seemed to mean a great deal because, if possible, his fur seemed to turn a shade or two lighter and his good eye opened more with something roughly akin to fear, though he quickly tired to disguise it a moment after.

“Damn those pesky varmints!” he cursed, “Right, I’ll be wantin’ a meeting with the ‘boys’ in two secs. You!” he pointed at a squirrel next to Chips, “You make sure this one can talk before I gets back you understand?” And with that Bucktooth flounced off leaving Bo in the company of a very evil and wiry looking squirrel with a sharpened twig of his own in hand.

“I’m gonna have fun with you me little bear friend,” cackled the little squirrel, “Boss said nuttin about how I get you to talk after all.” And with that he closed further and further in.

I won’t describe to you what happened but suffice to say after a few painfully loosened stitches in his joints and in his mouth Bo was able to talk and to scream blue bloody murder quite well. However, what the fetid little animal doing the torture didn’t know was that he had actually helped Bo out quite a lot by doing this. But that will become apparent later.

“Ow, bloody fecking ow,” whispered Bo bitterly under his breath. If he was able to cry then he was sure that great rivulets of water would be matting his fur right about now. It wasn’t just the pain, it was the horrific thought that his owner wasn’t going to come get him, wasn’t going to save him and wasn’t going to love him anymore.

“Well I can see ya ca talk now,” came Bucktooth Dave’s voice from the other end of the twiggy prison.

“Better than you can you bushy tailed twit,” shouted Bo, his voice much less squeaky than a squirrels and a little bit deeper than Bucktooth’s himself.

“D’aw shucks, you noticed I keep it quite bushy did you?” said Bucktooth twirling his tail quite theatrically, “Always gets me noticed by the lady squirrels you…” Then Bucktooth thought very hard for a moment, “Did you just call me a twit?”

“You know, I think I did, what are you going to do about it?” challenged Bo. He was in quite a dangerous state of mind at this point, for a bear. The way he reasoned it was that he couldn’t be with the owner he loved so why the hell care about what a squirrel with a twig was going to do to him? See I told you, quite worrying really.

“I’m a’ gonna beat you black and blue you little whippersnapper!” roared Bucktooth (squeaked) before starting to close in on the bear. But unfortunately for him Bo had a plan.

“Oh aye, I know your type,” said Bo sarcastically, stopping Bucktooth in his tracks, “Come up all big and strong when the other guy’s all trussed up and can’t defend himself. Oh yeah very brave.”

This stopped Bucktooth in his furry tracks. Now that h thought about it, it’d look bad to the boys if he wailed on something that couldn’t defend himself. Cowardly Squirrel names were in the offing and status or no status no one was exempt from them.

“You know what yer right you little fuzz ball, I’m a’ gonna untie you and then we do this fuzz to fuzz.” And with that the squirrel nibbled away at the bonds that were all about the bear until Bo found that he could in fact move his limbs without the excessive stitches.

“Thank you, now,” the bear stood up and there was something dangerous in his eyes as he looked down on the squirrel, “I think I owe you something.” And with that he sent the stub of his paw flying into Bucktooth Dave’s face, sending him flying across the cell room with an explosion that almost shook the tree.
