For the writers camp competition
She came to us as a mangy cat,
Little fur, less life and no wobble of fat,
Such a state we saw her that first day,
So unsure we were those days in May.

We loved her sway and pitied her sorrow,
We brought her food, some bought some borrowed,
So much we needed to do for this cat,
So much we wanted to see ‘straight off the bat’.

Our parent they warned she is ill and sick,
She may not make it, don’t fall in love too quick,
She may not make it, don’t grow so attached,
In scorn of her words our master plan was soon hatched.

“I don’t care what mother says I certainly love her to death!,
“If she has lungs and a heart we can give her the breath!,
With depth of love and being lovingly adept,
We will sweep her problems away, and renew her fur now so unkempt!”

Between my sister and me
there was nothing to decide,
“from now on this cats life will be,
a magical and fantastical ride!”
we will love and care
for this creature in need,
we will save and share
whatever we can to feed, her....”

a month had passed
and already we could see,
the fur growing fast
our mother worry turning to glee.

when six months had gone
her coat shimmered and shone,
when a year had passed
she grew nimble and fast.

“What great children you are
To care so for this cat,
She shines from afar,
And boasts a healthy fat".

We smiled at each other
it was clearly true,
we smiled at our mother,
the cat was as new.
