A Poem for Lost Friends

To the people I've passed along the way

Sorry I didn't cease

And talk a bit until another day

and that day's night's release



But the ones with whom I've talked for days

the hours came and went

Like trying to find, in a haze,

Hours that were better spent



Nevertheless these hours weren't seen

but for one reason and one alone

These days, I see, are the best there's been

No better hours were ever known
