The Gift Of Life

Deep in my synapses
there have been many lapses
wrong memories brought to fore
I must hope for no encore

Grey matter holds the keys
to whether our thoughts will freeze
or bubble right to the boil
as we sit here and toil

To solve problems we're designed
that's why we have this mind
to grasp abstracts and to see
beyond the images that are free

For other forms that roam
this planet we call home
are mostly not as yet
ready to use the internet

Though apes are close behind
the evolution of our own kind
as yet they have not displayed
the skills with which we've made

A lot of leaps and bounds
making vision and such sounds
as never made before
the electronics some adore

But in our headlong rush
how many are we to crush
those that have no video
or safe place they can go

As Christmas comes once again
do we give more than we gain
to those who never knew
the simple comfort of a shoe

A nation rich and proud
should stand and say it loud
the gift of life is best
let's go and feed the rest........
