A poem about the hazards of love
Our love is not that of quiet still waters Or peaceful bubbling streams

No, it is not the stuff of fairytales or young schoolgirl dreams

Our love speaks of the sea when a tumultuous storm rages

And we hold desperately to each other, hunched below the deck banisters

We clutch one another fiercely as the waves throw us against the ships sides

We are terrified not knowing if this love affair will leave us dead or alive

We give thought to letting go, knowing by doing so one of us may be saved

But we don’t let go of each other

We prefer the jostling of the waves in each other’s arms

Prefer this over calmness and safety

We have known the sunshine and quiet apart from one another

And the fleeting thought passes by, maybe I would be better off without him

No, I would rather die
