Paper Doll Gang Graduation Speech |
To the leaders of the Paper Doll Gang, friends and my fellow graduates, welcome. It has been a wonderful experience during our two month beginner’s course and one month of intensive study that we have just completed. For me, it has been a joy to meet new people and make new friendships in the Paper Doll Gang. As a new member of WDC, I have found the people here to be friendly and helpful. It was just by accident that I came across this group. I noticed that one of my new friends, and one of my favorite poets on the site, Hunters Moon, was a member of your group. I was still having a little trouble finding my way around the site when I read about your course and what a Newbie could learn in your two month course in which we, as students, would have many challenges to complete. In my case, I started the course a couple of weeks late, but even so, having to catch up with the current class didn’t intimidate me. Hannah and Sticktalker were always there to help me when I needed it. It was also here that I was chosen to be Irisisflower’s pal and for that alone I am truly grateful. She has been a good friend and getting to know her has been a delight. I enjoyed working with her on our campfire assignment and look forward to other opportunities in which we can embark on other journeys where all Paper Doll members can be a part of the campfire interactive. Through the many activities that as students we were required to take part in, our leaders and mentors were always there to help us, answering any questions that we may have had and even on occasion they were there to listen to our complaints and soothe ‘ruffled feathers’ if need be. In our course of study we were taken out of our comfort zones to participate in different types of writing. I write poetry and seldom write in any other form, but with encouragement from our leadership I am now also writing short stories and have learned to write a query letter. All I can say is thank you for giving us the impetus to try new things because it has helped us to become better writers. In conclusion, the Paper Doll Group promotes a camaraderie that is supportive to everyone in our group. The warmth here is genuine and all of our members are ready to give a helping hand to each other as well as to other members in the WDC family. I am happy to say that I will always be ready to recommend our group and this course of study to any new member of the site. It is worthwhile and I have found it to be a safe haven where lasting friendships are made. Written December 12, 2009 |
