Why more old people should write, and more young people should read.
Why more old people should write,
and more young people should read.

Yes, to me it stands to reason. Who else is qualified to express an opinion of the world and its changes but the older generation. You can't just write them all off as senile and geriatric, as a burden on us all, I mean, they made the pavement we walk on, they made the buildings we see everyday, the roads we use. And young peoples views are rarely useful, more entertaining than anything else, and if you asked them 'what have you read lately' they would probably laugh and ask what reading was for? Yes, the old have an edge of their own, they can't be ignored or disregarded
The way the young people look at being old, it's what saddens the whole process, people seem to think that old people are old for a long time, when it is probably the shortest period in our life's story, relatively speaking.
Old people are not the permanent fixtures we tend to assume they are. Some talk of the old man down the way as if he were a part of their lives only and not of his own, and the old woman around the corner as if she were an old piece of furniture to be used or disgarded. And some are too eager to see them off, degradingly callous in their appraisal, many who are supposed to care for the old are the vulturic shadow hanging over their demise, charged with the task of kindly comfort in the last years, but charged up with greedy visions of a lucrative endowment, the respect vanishes away like a prophetic glimpse of the coming inevitability, and sometimes their frustration leads to aggression and violence, toward the frail and helpless, people often without a voice.
. It is the packing away stage of our development, the putting away of our personal differences, of our view of our position, like being told that the company must cut back on staff, and you are definately in the firing line, your future is rubbed from the map of life, like the rubbish, you will be thrown out by nature.
And the amazing thing about this very real occurance is the fact that all of us, will go through it, and will die from it, whether we have loved and lost or never loved at all, whether we've been to the moon, or never been anywhere, we will get old, and we will die.
Of course the people that have been running things for the past fifty years should know more about what has happened and what has changed in the world. Why is the world going through such difficulties these days, it flies in the face of all the advances in science and technology, doesn't it?
So please listen to the old, let them write the rules, let them have their say in life, don't degrade their existance, and snubb them like some kind of lowest class of all, praise them for what they have left us.
Because, believe me, one day it will be your turn?
