A poem (or song, if you want to think of it that way) about a dreaming child.
Reaching further little child,
Stretch out for the hand.
Falling as your hair goes wild,
Feet not touching solid land.

Time expands and feels so short,
Till you wake in bed,
Same time as the one before,
Waking with a sense of dread.

Mama, mama can't stop the dreams now.
Crawl into her bed but you know how,
That never helps chase the monsters away,
And in your nightmares is where they'll stay.

Flower petals rain down from red and land as black.
The women dancing in the distance, facing towards their back.
Turning, faces distort into monsters of the night.
And as you run your golden hair makes for your only light.

Pushing faster little dreamer,
Legs don't lose their grip,
For one can only guess what's seen here,
If you start to slip.

Dreaming fades to darkness,
And you wake up with a gasp.
Crying on your pillow sleepless,
Voice begins to rasp.

Papa, papa can't stop the dreams now.
No story will make the monsters bow out.
Growing older, he says they'll fade.
But they never seem to go away.

Flower petals rain down from red and land as black.
The women dancing in the distance, facing towards their back.
You know the faces you'll see in the creatures of the night.
So you run as your tears seem to shine a new light.

Just run, run, run away from the black.
You know it'll catch up the next time you're in bed.
Crying tears from the courage you lack,
Begin to wonder what's wrong with your head.

Years pass as you grow in length,
And childish wants fade as you grow in strength,
But the dreams they never fade away,
Left without sleep for the waiting day.

So flower petals rain down from red and land as black.
The women dancing in the distance, facing toward their back.
You see the faces before they turn, the monsters of the night.
And you pull from your heart within, your shining light.

Lift it up and bring it down, make the creatures run instead.
Take a breath and hold yourself, take time to clear your head.
And before you wake up safely in the comfort of your bed.
Take time to dance in flower petals raining down in red.
