dark poem about cutting so my daughter would know I did understand
The Blade

When you call me names
The blade beckons to me
When you complain about every speck of dust
The blade calls my name
When you've had a bad day and take it out on me
The sharp silverness is almost too much to resist
When I do nothing wrong and yet everything is my fault
The blade seduces me like a song
When you complain about the dinner I just made for you
The blade's hold on me is so strong
When you have no time for me
The blade promises to end the lonleliness
When I ask you to do something for me and you have a fit
The blade swears it would deny me nothing
When you say i do nothing all day
The blade claims I can no nothing forever
When you act like you don't need me
The blade screams out its need for me
I stand at the bathroom sink, trembling
The blade pressed against my wrist
I push it deeper into my skin
The slight pain is gratifying
Suddenly I hear one of the children calling for me
The blade goes back into its hiding place
I take a deep breath and live to face another day
The blade has failed today
But who knows what tomorrow will bring?
The blade will be there waiting for me
