About a girl who hides her dreams and fears from the world. |
She hid her fears From the world out there Shaped them into a smile; a grimace No, she would not share Her dreams, they ate her For she did not dare show them This world is cruel And her poor soul was alone As time, as it does, passed away Her brisk, her life, it drained away Her color faded, her eyes shaded Her hair transformed, black to grey Midnight eyes, now so painfully dim Passionate lips, now so thin Still so resolute she was Tears full to the brim Looks out of her window A sparrow flashes past Her eyes follow the tiny animal Heart cries at its fate The bird so small, so concealed In this world so big for it Full of predators that sniffed It’s very existence; endanger it then A door slams somewhere far off An obstinate youth leaves his home; his refuge Welcomes the obstacles of this world Wanders off; so tiny in a place so big Her heart throbs, her days are ending Lips part, tries to say something A last throb; hands jerk, clutch at the smooth wall Slip down slowly, as if savoring the very feel of it There she lies; her dress ruffles Eyes close; open halfway A sigh escapes “this world is a big place” Her soul drifts off, forgetting its former body Those who live, the wise, the bold Say that hiding is for cowards Making a place in this world so big Is the art of success; which she never understood. |
