It was Christmas eve in 'eighty one'
when your brother came and  delivered me
a note
from you!


I hurried to my study
to read it quietly
the first note I have ever received
from the one I ever loved

It said simply
'please be kind enough to come
to the edge of the road
on Christmas morning
to go to church with me'

It explained everything
the golden note gave me a surprise
because I never expected
a note from you
Yes, it told me everything

I still have it with me
the note you sent me
in the same old study
and I still have a look at it
very often- as you guessed


It is now smudged,
old, with discolored words
twisted and unreadable
but I still love
your golden Christmas note!
