The red haired girl

        All the people in the village banged on the walls of the castle. They screamed and pleaded, "Let us in!" they yelled.

        The kings men ran into the courtyard of the castle and began to climb the stairs to the tower where a girl in green was held.

      The kings men slammed the door down and put a bag over the girls firery red hair and, over the rest of her face. The men in armor tied her hands as well as her feet, clutching her by the shoulders they dragged her from her tower and into the courtyard where the screaming voice could be heard from outside the castle walls.

      "Please, where are you taking me!" mumbled Athena from inside the bag that kept her eyes from seeing the sun. Not once had she ever seen the sun. From the time she could walk Athena was kept in that tower with nothing more than a bed and her own imagination.

        Then soldiers came to a hault and dropped Athena, with a BANG, Athenas head hit the ground, she screamed and wiggled like a fish out of water. Then two big brass doors opened followed by more soldiers in armor and finally the king himself, King Willis. From the ground Athena could feel the rumbling from the marching soldiers and she could hear the cries from the people outside.

            Athena was silent trying to hear the conversation the king was having with one of the other soldiers, "Where are they now?" Athena heard the king whisper, she knew it was the king, for every once in awhile she would hear the king talking outside of the tower, asking the guard how she is and if she knows her name.

            "They are marching toward the west gate but they will be here quickly, they have brought dragons!" Said the soldier sounding worried.

            Athena ghasped and the king walked over to her, "Do you speak?" said the king, sounding welcoming.

            "Ye-yes i do." Her voice rang, it was a beautiful voice, the sound of a voice that had been saved for the past 17 years, it was a new voice.

              "Its good you can talk- i am afraid that the shadow has passed and they are coming for you." The king touched

Athena gently.

              "What shadow, what is happening." Athena's voice shaked.

              Suddenly, the bag was ripped from Athena's head and for the first time she could see, she could see everything. The castle walls were gray and made from stone, the doors were wooden except for the one the king entered out of, and the sky...was....red. "They sky?" Athena said confused,"Thet sky is red, i heard stories it was blue."

              The king smiled, he was a heavy man with a hairy face, and scars that went from his forehead to whatever you could see behind his bearded chin. "As i said young one, its the shadow... I know this is your first time out in sunlight but i must warn you... When the sky turns red they are going to come for you, they are going to take you away so that way my kingdom will be saved."

            Athena was confused, it was to much for her brain to comprehend. "Who is they, and why did you lock me up in the castle for so long?

          "They are just people coming for you. And we put you up there to protect you, incase they came before the day of the shadow."

            Suddenly cries came from outside and the king stood up, no longer was he smiling, he snapped his fingers and once again the bag was placed over Athenas head and the soldiers lifted her from the ground. Athena turned her head from inside the bag. They dragged her up the stairs onto the top of the castle.

            Athena could feel the breeze pull at her dress. The soldiers untied her hand and feet. Athena looked over from the top of the castle and could see hundreds of people crying helplessly as warriors and creatures Athena never heard of before sliced the helpless commoners. The soldiers ran down the stairs and Athena looked helpless. Her eyes were wide and her red curly hair blew out behind her.

            Then, she heard a loud roar and the wind picked up. A great red dragon rose from the ground grabbed Athena from the waste, The dragon flew over the castle and, when Athena looked down she could see the courtyard and many more of the strange creatures that were outside. Suddenly, fire came raining from the sky and Athena saw at keast 200 men set on fire...she covered her eyes.

            It seemed like only a moment passed before Athena opened her eyes again... Athena was still in the dragons clutches, when she looked down she could see a large, dark castle. Surrounded by the castle was a sea of lava.

            'this is a volcano!' Athena though to herself as her eyes widened. 

              The air began to change as the dragon neared the castle, suddenly Athena became very hot. Athena got a better look at the castle as the dragon neared the big brass door.

              The castle was a coal color with five large towers and a thin bridge then went from the outside of the volcano to the door of the castle. The dragon began to stop flying and its feet touched the ground with a loud thud.The dragon let go of Athena.

              "Dont run...or you will die." Said the dragon in a eerie voice. Then it flew away...



            Athena sat on the ground, hiding her face in her eyes. She felt the tears fall thru her hands and pat against the hard floor.

            " I wouldnt cry...at least- not here." Whispered a voice from behind. It was a womens voice, dark and eerie but it was a women.

            Athena stood up and turned around, as she did her red hair flew out behind her, the wind began to pick up. "Who are you?" Athena asked as her head began to pound.

            The lady laughed, "You are as pale as a ghost, have they kept you locked up in a tower your whole life?" Then she became serious, "They did lock you up in a tower didnt they...They left you in the dark for your whole life... doesnt that make you angry?" Said the women.

            Athena took a step closer and got a better look at the women...she was beautiful. She had wild black curls with a long black dress on covered up bye a red cape. Ontop of her head was a black tiara that looked very similar to a bat.

          "N-no im not angry...they put me up there to protect me." Athena took another step closer.

            The women laughed, "To protect you...Child, they are afraid of you. Athena looked puzzled. "Oh, come with me... i will show you." The lady gestured to the enterance of the castle. Athena took a step and the great doors opened, and she walked inside.
