The Birth of a Poem

An idea is born,
From the soul it is torn;
A beam, a torch, a light,
Breaks into the night.

A rhyme is sought,
A rhythm caught;
A hum, a chant, a song,
And the words tag along.

A spell is cast,
Once fixed it holds fast;
The hand, the eye, the ear,
Lets the magic appear.
