Summertime

In the Cumberland Mountains of East Tennessee, the bluffs are riddled with one-man coal mines, the natural seepage of the water in the mountain strata flowing from the mines. Far below, streams receive the acrid iron and sulfur chemicals from the mines, and the clays and organics in the water settle from the water as floc, leaving the water crystal clear, a swimming delight for young people in the summer.
