Ode for the Tuesday Morning Cantos class- lesson One |
Ode to Lake of the Woods Deep in the wood, hidden within Cool, so pristine, this lake lies enchanted Bordered by birch of white and maple trees; Tall evergreen, heavenly pine scented With morning’s rise in mid-July, Diamonds waltz and gleam on gentle waves O glorious sight to inspire this day! Open, nourishing, in constant motion, Refreshing water stretches wide Offering drink and fish for divine wildlife, The regal call of a loon echoes from another side Sandy spots and rocks along the coast Where lapping currents crest and break, For driftwood, velvety and worn- A resting place that stirs again awake! Wind quiets and calms the surf, Shoreline forest reflects across the mere, Nature’s church to praise and to protect Pleasing, serene, simple to endear *ntoe* Ode A formal lyrical poem that may or may not rhyme.
