Foot prints on the road
Wednesday Morning's Revelation

Written by Mark D. Tuell

It's just me again
and my shadow.
When I walk at night
or in the day
I'll still be alone
with just my shadow.

I'm going back
to a world
I know
all so well.
An endless road
with no abode,
full of people
in places
that I just
end up in.
Someone there
will make me smile
with a laugh,
maybe even
buy me
a cold beer
to wash down
the long road.

And, where
I rest my weary bones
it will not
really matter to me.

Understand,
life on the road
is for a lost soul,
that knows
what it is like
to wake up alone
in some hotel room
and go to a
breakfast,
of scrambled eggs
with sausage patties.
I like patties
not links,
and a side of
hash browns.

Than wash it down
with a six pack
of cold beer,
as I'm
sitting behind
the neighborhood
gasoline station.
While I decide
where I'm
headed next.

Smoke a cigarette
before I walk in
the Grayhound station.
Get my ticket,
put my things
in a locker
and go to the bar.
Drinking my way
till it's time
for the bus ride
going somewhere
other than where I was.
And, that would be all
to which it matters,
someplace else,
other people
in the next city.

The skies have turned gray
and rain pours
on me now.
It fills my eyes
running down my face,
I taste it's salty brine
in my mouth,
just as I do
the last kiss
of her's.
