Dancing in an empty house...
Floorboards

Here I am
I stand alone
In my house not once my home

My eyes are dry
Palms are moist
Long ago I lost my voice

Hair unwashed
Mind unkept
Eyes are closed not once I wept

This place I held
For mine alone
Fingers twine around my own

Floorboards dusty
They ache to squeak
I hope aloud for the words they speak

Once were dancing
Bitter cool
Shoes in the corner call me the fool

I hear the music
Within my mind
World without I try to find.

Once alone
Never found
Tentative I spin around.

Feet pad on the floor with care
Like my soul
Dusty and bare.

A ticking clock
I keep the beat
Sweat and breeze combat the heat.

Feet on floorboards
Intake of breath
Dancing my alone to death.

Hear the music
I didn’t know
Feet on floorboards till echos go.

A cloud of dust moves
Leaves behind
Floorboards – and a dance that’s mine.
