A bit I wrote about a moment I shared with a "friend".
I have been sitting with you for a while, outside, in the cold, listening to your songs. Not all of them have words, but I like to sing along anyway. There is a slight breeze coming over the lake, toward the forest. A wolf howls in the distance, a dog barks somewhere nearby, and an owl’s call can just be heard over your music. The wind picks up, and the cold makes me shiver, I pull my jacket closer. It is getting late and I ought to leave, but I can’t, I don’t want to. I stare down at my knee, tracing invisible flowered patterns as I avoid your eyes. We have been playing this game all night; you know I am avoiding you. I feel your eyes shift back to your music, I stare at my leg for a moment longer, and then I dare to glace at your face. I only intend to gaze for a moment, but the music in your soul holds me captive. I try to look away, I feel your head about to turn, and then you look at me. I thought I was caught before, but now I am truly spellbound, the music and moonlight glowing from your eyes is dazzling. Your face is lit by emotion, and never has it looked so full of life. For this one moment we share a glimpse of endless possibilities, of chances waiting to be taken, and lives waiting to be lived. But you look away, I don’t know why, but the moment is over and I remember that ties to reality are hard to break.
