If Mothers Came From Heaven
If Mothers came from Heaven, mine surely did;
She brought me into God’s world through love and pain,
Never giving second thought to earthly gain;
Hers was a labor greater than any King might bid.
I know her love is infinite and unbounded,
Because her heart is like our Father’s above;
I shall ever know my Mother’s love
When the love of men is vanished and unfounded.
Her steady hand and busy days,
Proved her love as she cared for me;
Food and clothes aplenty were certain to be,
For my Mother attended my needs in careful ways.
Should all others forsake my life,
My Mother will ever stand abreast of, abiding;
No other can be found so faithful and prevailing
My Mother’s love perseveres throughout all strife.
If all the sands should wash away from every shore,
And the light of all the stars in heaven go out;
The love of my Mother shall live without doubt,
As certain as the FATHER who is forever before.
