a poem i wrote for my mother inspired by the song Champion by Kanye West |
Champion By Laci Miller Hey mamma did you know? You are a champion in my eyes From the moment of my conception I was your beautiful surprise You helped me devour knowledge That produced clear thoughts Everything I’ve ever known Through you I was taught Although you weren’t my first word Im sure you’ll be my last My final hour thanking god for the mother that I had You broadened my horizons and showed me the world Taught me how to groom myself into a proper girl Through your actions you showed me strength Through your words you embodied love And whenever I was stuck You gave me that needed shove It’s a wonder it took a song to inspire this poem Cause your everyday inspiration is outside of the norm Our discussions about the world Created the rants on my paper And when I’m in your arms There ‘s not a place that feels safer You endured my bad attitude And had some close calls too But when all is said and done In the end it was you Always supporting your baby My lioness protecting her cub And I hope when I have my princess And she looks up above She prays for me like I pray for you You are the epitome of love You are the epitome of my aspirations Did you know mamma I want to be just like you How can I possibly show my adoration for a woman so true Hopefully these words will mark the beginning of my tribute Mamma I hope you know you are a champion in my eyes |
