The city of Kharinjiratan, at long last, was won. That single thought kept assailing Ayothept of Goadrar like a triumphant mantra, making his heart swell with its implications. Ten months of non-stop siege in the Dhjirran deserts had pushed his men to the limits of their sanity and physical endurance, but as of today, all that stood in their path to conquest was one last force of Dhjirrites in the Nexus Atrium. He wished dearly to join his brothers now and aid them in the last push towards the plaza, but he knew his orders and was honor bound to complete them. Tightening his grip on his flail and shield, he charged through the veil of cadaver fog, eyes smarting from the acrid sands and overwhelming smell of copper in the air. Through the obscurities, he could see Mmalth of Vereseux fighting toe-to toe with a Dhjirrite soldier, it hulking reptilian form, easily dwarfing the young soldier. The small warrior blocked the whirling copper falchion with his bastard sword in reflexive spasms, every swipe a shower of sparks. With a cry of exertion, Ayothept swung his flail in a broad sideways arc, connecting with it’s temple in a spray of yellow blood and skull fragments. Mmalth accepted his help with a shallow bow and the sign of the all-solar, and stalked back into the seething fray. Ayothept liked the young warrior, and had seen potential in him to be an Ivory Chaplain the day he had seen him fight in Taharindad. Clearing his mind of trivial clutter, he ran what he thought was west towards where Rhamasse de Sibre was advancing the last knight wedge into the Atrium. As he ran, a Dhjirrite caught his presence with its forked tongue and turned its spear towards him. He dropped into a low stance, and begun spinning hid flail head in a slow circle ready to strike at any moment. The reptilian lunged at him its tourmaline tipped spear slicing towards his shield. At the last moment, he angled it to the left, the weapon glancing across the metal aegis with a metallic shriek, leaving its flank exposed. With a flourish, he brought his flail into its ribs, shattering the bones and sending marrow shards into its heart. Another beast tried to intercept him, its blade stabbing at his torso. Swinging his flail once again, he brought it down on the blade carving towards him, the chain wrapping around the hilt. Yanking with all his strength, he pulled the enemy soldier at him it stumbling under the force of the tug. Just as he was about to slam into the reptile, he raised his shield, its body slamming into his shield, contusing its abdomen and walloping him to the ground. Ayothept finished him with a crushing stomp to the throat, blood welling up in his mouth like a borehole. The smoke began to clear, and he witnessed the carnage wreaked here by both sides, bodies strewn across the ground in macabre fashions, blood of all colors damping the sand. Committing their souls to the light of the great Solarisar, he continued his trek to the plaza. Also standing to pray was Charimar of Yhenis and his infantry unit of 60 men all in unanimous prayer. “Ayothept, my brother we have lost many today” he said, his grim. “Yes brother, but for a good cause” he replied “Is it really?” he said wearily? “Yes I believe so brother, he said; now let’s go show these Reptilian bastards how to fight!!!” |
