A companion poem to "For Andrew".
Remember the 'best friend' mentioned in "For Andrew"? Well, this poem is dedicated and written to him. It's pretty much an account of my day today. :) (September 4, 2008) It probably won't make sense to many people. I wrote it pretty quickly a few minutes ago and (this is important) it's UNEDITED. I would have like to fit more emotion in the poem, but then it would have been way too long. Just tell me what you think.

"Give Me Something"

One little mix-up
Doesn't mean anything.
Stupid, is all,
Ignorant.
But then in the halls
You're right there.
God, you're right there -
Closer than I'd prefer.
I'm trying to ignore you
As best as I can.
But then your whispered words,
My name on your lips
Sweeter than chocolate,
Make me melt -
No relation to the blazing heat.
And even though I don't understand your words
They're in my head all day.
At first I was relieved
We're on the opposites.
But now I curse the gods
For being so cruel.
I track your sightings
As if I'll win an award.
Three? Four? I've lost count.
Now the sun is high
And I'm happy to switch.
Were you looking at me?
God, I hope so.
You're still fresh in my mind.
I yearn for you
Like a kitten yearns for its mother.
The torture of separation
Makes me beg for tomorrow.
Time passes too slowly.
Is it October yet?
November?
Next year?
Please let us make it to May,
To Nashville.
Postpone our parting
And let us be together,
Together.
Give me something to tell her.
Tell me how you feel
Tell me more about yourself.
I've never been so close
Your house, your room.
Give me something to talk about.

***

Sorry about the length. This poem is also dedicated to Margaret, the "her" in the line - Give me something to tell her. I'd be happy to answer any questions anyone has about this.
