Just testing the waters
I was in the middle of preparing dinner when I saw him pull up in the truck. Flustered and surprised I hurried to finish. And I had not even set the table yet! I rushed to get the dishes to about where they should be and ran to meet him.

He was a sight for my eyes. Broad shoulders and sparkling eyes, his handsomeness sends a spark of delight through me.  Sweaty though he was from a long day at work he embraces me and I breath deep the wonderful sent of sweat and sawdust.  As his new little wife I adored my husband in every way possible.

"Go change and when you come back down dinner will be ready," I told him unable to tear my eyes away from his tired body.

"Maybe I don't want to eat just yet," he declares as he sweeps me into his arms and carries me up the narrow staircase.

As we clear the stairs he pulls me closer and kisses my eager lips. We are in the hallway now just steps from our cozy bedroom where he pauses just a moment as if debating to go on with it.

Suddenly the mood changes and his face is alarmed, "Do I smell smoke?"

"DINNER!" I exclaim near to tears as I rush down the stairs to discover that the beautiful steaks I had on low in the frying pan had now turned to a very crisp black on one side. Defeated I crumple to the floor. "Why is being a wife so blissful one moment and so hard the next?"

"I don't know dear, why don't we just forget about dinner and go back upstairs. Who cares about dinner. We can have something else.  Its no big deal." With that he turns and casually heads back towards the stairs. Turning he gives me a wicked smile before disappearing.

Hardly feeling like it I can't help but grin. I bring myself to my feet and scrape what would have been the main course into the garbage. With a loud sigh I put the pan into the sink and begin to fill it with water. I dutiful wife would find something else for dinner but, today I feel a little rebellious.  We don't need anything more for dinner, I suppose we can make due with salad and carrots.  With a little impish smile I run towards the upstairs bedroom.

At the top of the stairs I find that the shower is running. Hmm, this may prove to be a good opportunity to sneak up on my beloved.  Since he always leaves the door open this proves to be easy. I turn toward the bedroom and silently disrobe.  Then I tiptoe into the bathroom and climb into the shower.

The sight of his nakedness always makes me weak and now is no exception.  He turns surprised but with a smile and surveys his new tub mate.
