A poem about witnessing the incredible treasures of nature through the seasons. |
Cycle of Seasons Mirages of silver shimmer across the horizon A distance summer storm promising salvation, With blinding fury the lightning cracks Dark storm clouds erupt in thunderclaps, Torrents of rain smash upon the red dirt Releasing scents of eucalyptus and damp earth, The heat is abated but not for long Suddenly, swiftly the summer storm is gone, A hazy calm beckons as the seasons flow Gently unfurling like a budding rose, Leaves of red and gold spiral to the ground Innocent treasures of autumn to be found, Strings of dewdrops caught in a spider web Glistening like beaded jewels in a crowning bed, The pace of life slows to rest and recover Time to gather strength for the oncoming winter, Snow bound mountains soar towards the heavens Ancient and formidable like an angels’ fortress, A blanket of whiteness sweeps across the land An eternal chill spread by an almighty hand, The gushing of ice crusted rivers slow to a trickle Like champagne bubbles splashing on crystal, Slowly the warmth of spring air begins to tease Until the dormancy of winter begins to ease, Like a riot of spring blooms surging from the ground Nature’s beauty is a miracle endlessly found, All over the earth new life has begun Filled with youthful excitement and carefree fun, As life’s myriad of memories flash before my eyes I’m reminded of the cycle of seasons that never tire, Our spirit is eternal though the flesh may grow old Seeing the rebirth of spring is as precious as pure gold. |
