Money doesn't bring true happiness |
The Rich Are Poor I get up in the morning, never rise at noon. Start my day with food to eat, never eat too soon. Plan my day the best I can, it's good to have direction. Follow through with what I want, though sometimes make corrections. Take out the trash, cut the lawn, golf at nine or ten. Wax my car, make hors d'oeu-vres party with my friends. Make love all night, with ladies in waiting, write checks for monies due. Call my broker for investments, or see who I can sue. Play guitar the best I can, and play it loud as hell. No one likes the way I play, as far as I can tell. Complain about the little things, that seem to cramp my life, Never worry about anything, that seems to bother my wife. I have a maid to clean the house, and iron the shirts I wear. I have a chauffeur to drive my car, he takes me everywhere. My car phone rings, important news, "pick up shrimp for dinner" I'm too lazy to shine my shoes, and I'd rather be a sinner. I twist my words, until I'm right, I never need an excuse. Always say "I know what you mean" but to me your words are no use. I'm so smart, above them all, I never need a mentor. You can't say I'm incomplete, I've got all I ever asked for. Got all I want, and take the rest, the things that soon will come. Do anything I wish to do, I always have my fun. But somewhere there's a fine line drawn, someone has it better. Somewhere there's a greedier bastard, who doesn't need what matters. So I'll strive to get some more, no matter what the cost. I'll cheat and lie, and steal again, until I haven't lost. Need more and more to satisfy, desires of wanton pleasure. I treat people nice when I want, I do it at my leisure. Got more in life than most will have, but everyone's got it better. So I guess I will leave this life, and give you my last letter. S A Gibbins 1995 footnote: It's amazing how people imagine that money will bring happiness. True happiness is free and all around. Sad that greediness drives people to there end |
