Fear of fear

I can’t keep my eyes open but can’t keep them closed,

I can feel the adrenaline running to my toes,

About to drift off but am suddenly alert,

Panic overwhelms me with a short sharp spurt,

Night turns to day, day turns to night,

Body clock broken the old fight or flight,

Heart starts to thud, burning in my chest,

I start to think only when I’m dead I’ll get a rest!

No-one understands because I’m young and should be fit,

People give me looks like I’m supposed to think I’m it,

But I don’t, I don’t care, there’s only one thing on my mind,

And that’s a decent night’s sleep cos it’s the hardest thing to find!
