Finding out Adora's secret the debate begins.
Chapter Five

            Awakening the Emotion (Making Accords)

Adora’s eyes fluttered open, focusing on Jayce.  Her sweet angel’s face, pale and fragile, with faded green eyes staring intently upon his.

“There you are, doll.”  He spoke softly, “You’re okay now.  I’ve got you.”

Dunkin stood up, “You gave him . .  . us, quite a fright miss.”

At that moment, she noticed her body wrapped in the blanket, and that she lay in Jayce’s arms.  Within him she was safe and warm.  The concerned look upon Jayce’s pale face seemed sweet.  To her, he looked more a human then a vicious monster.  She wanted to stay right here forever, just to remain in his arms.  Here she only found peace, without worry, pain, or fear.  Just peace.  A peace unlike any other she’d ever known.  Peace.

Letting her eyes wonder around the room, she then noticed the other vampires sitting around her living room.  Dunkin stood over her.  Her forehead creased with confusion.  She tried to sit up but, Jayce refused to let her go.

“Slowly.”  he whispered to her, “Don’t be in such a rush.  Take it easy.”

Brushing her hair away from her face with gentle fingertips, he sighed with relief.  His touch electrified and awakened her senses.  She looked up at him.

“I’m. . . I’m sorry Jayce.” she whispered to him in a horse voice.  Her lips still slightly blue, the color slowly returning to her face.  “I was just so busy … today.  I forgot to take my medicine.  I didn’t mean to scare anyone.”

“It’s okay.”  he reassured her. “The important thing is you’re okay, now.”

An uneasy grin swept across his face as he let out another sigh of relief.

“Thanks to you.” she reminded him, sweetly smiling back.  She was glad to see the relief on his face, but the confusion in his eyes told her he needed the truth.  He needed to know what he’d saved her from.  What had happened, and why she needed the medicine.

“I have a bad heart.” she admitted, the smile slowly fading from her face, as she slowly sat up with Jayce’s help. “I was born with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.  HCM.  It’s where your heart muscle to become thick, making it harder for the heart to work.” she swallowed hard.  Embarrassment and hurt mingled together on the face.  Her eyes fell away from him.

“It makes it harder for the blood to leave my heart, which makes my heart have to work harder to pump blood.” She continued in a faint whisper, fidgeting with her hands.  Sure that they could all hear her, with their keen hearing skills. “I’ve been on a transplant list since I was eight.  But I have a rare blood type.  AB negative.  So that drops my chances a bit.  The doctors said I wouldn’t make it past Twenty, but when Marnus made me,. . . drink his blood, . . .”  she cringed, her voice fading out.

“It kept you going.  Made you feel, stronger.” Dunkin informed, “That’s why you’ve been injecting yourself with altered vampire blood.”

“Yes.” she answered, looking around to the eyes staring back at her. “But it has been altered to get rid of the addictiveness.”

One of the others scoffed then added, “That’s impossible!”

“How is that possible?” Dunkin interjected, ignoring the rude comment.

“Geesh Dunkin,” Jayce hissed impatiently.  “Let the poor girl get her bearings first.  She’s just woken up from near death and is surrounded by vampires.  Let her at least have a drink before you interrogate her.”

“Of course.  Mikey, get the tea.” Dunkin said, instructing the very large man by the fireplace.  He nodded to him, blurring out of sight.

Just then a steaming, hot cup of tea was in Jayce’s hand.  Adora looked back to where the huge man was.  Only to see him sitting back at the fireplace, as if he’d never left.

‘Vampires.’ She thought with a little shrug.

Taking the cup from Jayce, she first allowed the warmth to envelop her hands, taking the chill out of them.  Bracing herself for the burn of the liquid she inhaled the steam, and then took a sip.  To her surprise it wasn’t too hot.  The water was perfect temperature, allowing her to take a good long drink.  This time, as the perfectly warm liquid flowed through her mouth, down her parched throat, she tasted it.  Sweet and creamy.  It felt so good, quenching the dryness.

“Forgive my intrusive friend.” Jayce whispered, his voice soothing again. “This is Dunkin, King of the East coast, and Prince of New York.  Dunkin this is Adora.”

“Pleasure.  No need for the formalities Adderson.  Forgive my rudeness, my lady, but I find this … fascinating.” Dunkin nodded to her.  Adora nodded back, as Jayce continued to introduce the rest of the men.

“The tall lanky guy over there by the fire is Mikey.  He’s mute, but his hearing is stellar.”  She looked to Mikey who gave her a quick nod before Jayce continued, “The dark haired one is Tommy, and the blonde there is Joe.”

From behind them a voice spoke out, “And I’m Billy.  Jayce’s partner, most of the time.”

Adora turned around to see a tall, black haired, brown eyed, dressed in all black man leading against her kitchen door way.  He looked about thirty in appearance, but she was certain that he was older than that.  He was tan for a vampire; he had actual color to his skin, although it was faded.  A smug smile animated his features.  He was handsome too, but not like Jayce.  Billy looked rugged, a typical bad boy.  Something lying in waits within his eyes.  Untrustworthy.  Not like Jayce.  Jayce had kind trusting eyes.  He wasn’t a stereo type.  No, he was different, more human then vampire.

“My apologies.”  Jayce gave a glance to Billy, “Adora, I think we should get you to bed.  You could really use some rest.”

“But Jayce, she just woke up.  I thought we wanted her awake?”  Billy inquired.

Jayce ignored him.  Standing up, offering her his hand.

Adora took it and gradually rose into his arms without argument.  Hooking one arm around her waist, leading her with the other hand, they began to walk out of the room.  She turned her head to Dunkin,

“It was a pleasure to have met you all.  If you need a place to sleep you’re welcome to stay.  Just remember to close the drapes before morning.”

“Much appreciated my lady.  Thank you kindly.”  Dunkin replied bowing his head to her.  A look of confusion crossed his face, “It was a pleasure to have met you as well.”

As Jayce helped her down the hall, she prattled off instructions on where to find pillows and blankets.  Reminding him of the guest room and the basement, and telling him to give Dunkin the guest room.  Telling him, to make everyone comfortable.

Jayce laid her down on the bed gently.  Going to the dresser he fumbled for her nightgown, and then walked back in slow precise movements.  In the darkness, she felt him leisurely removing her shoes.  Then she felt his hands running down her stomach till they found the top of her pants.  Tenderly he unfastened her button, she heard the sensual hum of the zipper as it ran down its track.  He pulled them away from her body, arousal warming her as she lifted her hips to him.  She could smell him.  To her surprise he smelled good. Like sandalwood. Earthy. The scent of his skin intoxicated her. His aroma, made her mouth dry with anticipation again.  She swallowed loudly.

Setting her pants on the floor, before his fingertips returned to her hips.  He ran them up her torso, removing her shirt as she rose up into his chest.  His soft loving touch, and strong scent, exhilarated her.  She breathed him in.  A little moan escaping her lips as the shirt was pulled over her head.  Leaning forward, he wrapped his arms around her, undoing her bra.  Leaning into his shoulder to take in the scent again, she wanted to cling to him.  To press herself against his chest.  She wanted to make him sweat, if she could, knowing that would only intensify his natural fragrance.

Jayce motioned for her to move back, sliding the bra off her shoulders, and placing it on the floor.  Fighting the urge to pout, she was now aware of her mostly naked body now sitting in front of him.  Instead she blushed.  Glad it was too dark for him to see the redness burning against her cheeks.

Adora sat there mostly naked before him, every fiber in his being aching to touch her perfection.  Her breath becoming uneven, her pulse rushed, her eyes tempting him. She wanted him to touch her, to kiss her, to make passionate love to her.  He knew it.  Her wanting only intensifying as he reached for her nightgown.  He wound it up allowing the fabric to flow over her.  His hand accidentally brushing against her breasts, as he moved the silky negligee’ down her body.

A tingle ran through her.  His touch so light and soft drifted across her skin.  Her nipples tightened against the silk.  Unable to fight her hunger for him in her weakened state, she leaned in and kissed him gently at first.  His lips hard, but his movements were tender.  Another electrifying tingle shuttered down her spine.  Unwilling to separate from him, she kissed deeper with heightened passion.

Jayce surprised by this, pulled back.  His shocked blue eyes looked at her.  He could smell her feminine musk, see her wanting peering through her eyes.  Grabbing a hold of her back he pressed her against him again.  Covering her mouth with his cool lips, his body becoming warm under her touch as he desperately tasted her.  His tongue pushing nudging her lips open, taking her breath away.  Adora let out a beautiful moan.  His tongue thrust between her lips, and she opened to receive it.  Thrusting her body against his, causing the ache between her legs to pulse with excitement.

Adora fell back on the soft bed, pulling Jayce down on top of her.  Her back arched against the mattress.  Jayce pulled back again, this time looking at her sweet face.  Her breath was excited and unbalanced.  His eyes feeding upon her beauty, as she fought to steady her breathing.  She was an angel, his angel, lying there before him.

“I thought I was gonna lose you.”  He quietly murmured to her, moving the hair from her face, again with his fingertips.

Her angelic smile returning to her face as she hummed, “You saved my life first. You refused to let me go.  I could hear you. Only you.  That’s why I came back. I came back for you.”

“You need to rest.”  he said calmly, trying to restrain himself.  “I can’t risk harming you further.  I want you, believe me I do but, first I have to know that your alright.”

“Don’t I feel alright?”  she asked with a longing sigh as she pressed against him.

“Oh god yes!” he replied with a low throaty growl.  “But now is not the best time.  Please…  You need your rest.”

Pulling himself away from her slowly as she rose with him.  He finished luring the silk night gown down around her.  Laying her back on the bed, he covered her up.  Kissing her tenderly again on her lips first, and then her smooth forehead.  He walked out of the room quickly, adjusting himself as he moved down the hall, leaving Adora alone with her fantasies.

Opening the bathroom door Jayce stood with leash in hand.  Frost lay on the floor in front of the porcelain tub.  A growl curled Frost lips bearing his teeth at Jayce.

“Okay you.”  He demanded, “You can either stay in here, or you can behave yourself, get something to eat, and go outside.  Your choice.”

Frost sat up tilting his head. It looked like the animal was pondering his options carefully.  Then, Frost let out a little whine, holding faultlessly still.  Jayce slowly moved towards him and clipped on the leash.

After getting the dog settled, he let Frost into Adora’s room, before returning to the other’s in the living room.

Billy tossed Jayce a black military duffle bag.

“Thought you might need some clean clothes. I stopped by your place on the way.”

“Thanks man.” Jayce walked out into the kitchen.  Sitting down at the table, he removed his shoes.

Mikey handed him a cold beer.

“Where’d you get this?” Jayce asked him.

“You know us. We always have a few brews in the car.” Joe popped off, “It’s you that we really don’t know anymore. What is this all about bro? Suddenly you’re a kept vamp.” he laughed, “And you haven’t even gotten any yet!”

They all gave a chuckle to Joe’s comment.

“Well, She’s just … Well … She saved my life, man.  I owe this dame.”  Jayce stammered, cracking open his beer.

“How?  By becoming a vegetarian?” Tommy mocked, “Dunkin told us about the animal blood.”

They all laughed and Jayce dropped his head with a shy smile, “Heard about that huh?”

“You bet we did and we all had a really good laugh over it too!” Billy added.

         Dunkin handed Jayce a cigarette.

“So,” he started, lighting Jayce’s cig with his silver Zippo, “We have to protect her from, while trying to destroy Marnus.  This could prove to be difficult.”

Jayce exhaled giving a knowing nod, “Yes it will be but, it must be done.  I have to protect her.  I don‘t expect anyone else to.”

Dunkin shook his head, “You know if one of us is in, the others are too.  We can’t let you handle this alone.”

“She’s a distraction!” Tommy’s mutter was like acid.  He took a quick swig of his beer.

“Really?  And how is that?” Dunkin replied, as Jayce shoot a pointed glance towards Tommy.

“Well, how is she not?” he growled back, “Adderson is obviously, obsessively distracted, or should I say enchanted by her.  She’s got a bad heart, which makes her useless to us.  A liability.  And to top it all off, Marnus knows Adderson’s with her.  She’s better off as bait then...”

Tommy’s rude remark cause Jayce to stand up, quickly sending the chair sliding across the room.

The other’s stood up as well leaving only Tommy seated.  Billy stood in front of Jayce, as Jayce pointed his finger towards Tommy and growled through bared teeth, “She will not be used as bait!  Do you hear me, meathead?” with his voice raised, he fought to keep his composure, as well as control of his emotions.  He took a deep breath lowering his hand.

“Oh, come on now Adderson.  No need for your out of date insults.” Tommy retorted.

“Dry up!” Jayce yelled back, “You’re off your rocker.”

“No, I think he might have a good idea.”  The angelic voice lingered through the air.  They all turned to see Adora standing in her nightgown.  Her blonde hair spilt down her shoulders, green eyes shimmering in the light.  Her skin still pale but, with the innocence within her face unchanged.  The glow from the fireplace behind her, radiating around her, made her look like an angel among them.

She spoke again in her angelic, hypnotic voice, “I won’t run anymore.  If it’s true that Marnus knows where to find me, then I believe it’s better to go to him, then to wait around for him to come to us.”

“You should be resting now.” Jayce said sweetly as he rushed to her side. “You’re exhausted and don’t know what you’re saying.”

“Rest?  And leave you all believing me to be weak?  I think not.” Her tone was calm and even.  She moved towards an empty chair by Jayce.  As she sat, they all followed suit. “I’ve been protected for years.  Which meant running and hiding.  I choose to stand my ground now.  I have nothing more to lose.  So there will be no more running and hiding for me.  So now that you know that, what’s the plan?”

“This mission is too dangerous to involve a Human!  Let alone a woman!” Joe exclaimed condescendingly, looking to Dunkin for support, then back to Adora, “No offence Miss but, you really shouldn’t be involved with this.”

“I have been involved with this for nine years.” Adora remarked looking at Joe.    Determination burned through in her eyes. “Look, one way, or another, with or without your help, I’m getting myself involved.  I will get the key for this collar and that bastard, by myself, if need be!”

“Dunkin?  You can’t be seriously considering bringing her along.” Tommy blurted out.  “She’ll be killed!”

They all sat in silence for a moment as Dunkin thought.  Finally he looked up and said,

         “What do you think Billy?”

“Well Dunk,” Billy stood up, walking to the fridge for another beer.  Replying, “I think she’s right.  They’re gonna come for her eventually.  If she’s willing to risk her life, and she will be, then that’s her choice.”  He finished by sliding the beer down the table to Adora, and then sat back in his chair.

Dunkin nodded for a moment until he caught Jayce’s face.  His expression unsure and concerned, yet Jayce said nothing. “Mikey, Jayce, let us discuss this in private.  Please excuse us everyone.” The three of them got up from the table and headed into the living room.

“Please understand that I meant no disrespect Adora.  I’m just concerned for your safety.”  Joe whispered to her, when the other‘s were out of the room.

“I understand Joe.  Thanks for your concern but, I’m afraid it’s not necessary.  I’m quite capable of taking care of myself.”

Tommy let out a harsh laugh, “Not against us you’re not!”

Adora’s eyes narrowed, countering him with, “Oh … Really?”

Dunkin lead them to the far end of the living room, before he turned to Mikey and asked,

“What are your thoughts on this my friend?”

Mikey reached into his coat, pulling out a small, old brown leather notebook and a cheap BIC pen.  Flipping it open Mikey scribbled quickly in its pages, and then turned it around for them to read.

:  She might be our best bet.  Marnus will be angered that we have her and that means he’s likely to make a mistake. :

“You can’t be serious.” Jayce whispered in a harsh tone. “She might be a fighter, she might have some enhanced strength and stamina due to the vamp blood, but, the girl’s got no real time to prepare for something like this.  What if something goes wrong? What if she ends up back in Marnus’ hands?”

Suddenly they heard a ruckus from the kitchen, followed by a loud Thud!!  They rushed to the doorway only to hear,

“Okay!  Okay!  I was wrong!” Tommy yelled in submission, Adora pinning him against the table.  Straddling him with a stake to his chest held just above the heart.  The other two men just sitting there, stunned.  Amazed.

“It might not kill you but, it’ll certainly paralyze you.  Then I can show you how we humans are more than equipped to handle you.  It’s amazing what you can do to a vamp with a lighter, a screwdriver, and a stake.” Adora whispered to him in a soft, sweet, serious voice.  “Wanna see?”

“Adderson! Call her off will ya!!” Tommy shouted.

“Dude!  Your girl’s quick man!” Joe, still in shock, uttered to Jayce.

         “Adora?”

Jayce was astonished by what he was seeing.  He could barely believe his eyes.  His angel appeared cruel and calculating, showing no fear in her face.  Only anger, ambition, purpose.

It bothered him.  This wasn’t her.  Not who she was, at least to him.  In this moment her innocence, removed from her soul.  Amazed as he was, it made him shudder to think about what her thoughts might be.  What thoughts had drove her sweet, kind soul to the darkest depths of wrath.  Even just showing off, she projected her overwhelming hate, driving Jayce deeper into confusion.

Seeing the bewildered expression on Jayce’s face, she calmed herself.  Releasing Tommy, she slid off the table.  Straightening her robe, she smoothed out its wrinkles, and retied it.  Billy then approached Jayce.

“She was just amazing man!  Tommy tried to tell her she couldn’t take a vampire on.  So out of nowhere she pulled Tommy out of his seat and on to the table.  She reached one hand under the table and this stake appeared!  Next thing we know she was on top of him, before we could even move.  Boy, that girl is fast.  It was awesome!”

Dunkin smiled as Jayce looked around the room to see all his rough and tough, undead comrades completely impressed (and unnerved) by her.  Gazing upon her face again he realized he was impressed too.  Never before in his life had he ever wanted a woman like he did right now.  Quickly he turned back to Dunkin and Mikey.

“Okay the vamp blood helps, and she’s resourceful.” He shrugged, “But, stakes aren’t gonna work on very vampire out there.”

         “I know that!” she laughed.

“Be serious, woman.  In this house you might be able to hold your own.  With these lower level vampires,” he lectured, everyone but Dunkin, scoffing at his statement.  He smiled, continuing with, “Okay, that lower level vampire.” He pointed to Tommy, “But, Marnus is older, wiser, and above things like stakes, or sunlight.”

“Sunlight?” Adora repeated in disbelief. “You mean he’s not affected by the sun?”

“I never said he wasn’t affected.  Just that it’s not as effective on him.  See what I’m saying?  You’re unprepared to deal with this.  You’d be safer here, doll.”  Jayce demanded.

“Or, you could teach me what I don’t know, and I could be an asset.”  She countered.

         “I don’t think that’s a good idea.  Your heart …”

“Won’t be a problem.”  She said through her teeth.

“Why Adora?  Why risk your life, your peace, to fight vampires?  You might not come out of this alive.”  He insisted with an intensely serious tone.

“Peace!” she scoffed, “I haven’t had peace in nine years, and you know that Jayce.  A life?  You call running and hiding, without family or friend because there all dead, a life?  Face it Jayce.  The only difference between you and me is that I’m not a supernatural being, thirsting for human blood!  Why are you doing this Jayce?  Why would you, of all people, try to stop me from getting the same thing that you want?  The same thing we need to be able to live?”

“Because, I don’t want you to get hurt!”  He said in a loud growl.

“Well I don’t want you to get hurt ether!” she growled back, “Now I’m going to do this!  It will happen!  Even if I have to sneak out of my own house.”

“Adora be reasonable!  This kind of battle is no place for a…”

         “Girl?!”

“No!  A human!  Don’t make this something it’s not!”  He was yelling now, his hands balling up into fists.

Her eyes went softer.  Noticing his hands she took a deep breath, composing herself.  Jayce followed suit.  The others still sat silent and waiting.

“I’m sorry.”  she murmured sweetly.  “I don’t want to fight with you.”

“Perfectly natural, young lady!”  Dunkin answered loudly.  “It’s the blood talking.”

Dunkin looked to Jayce.  Jayce gave a nod, taking a drink from his bottle.  Adora looked puzzled by his comment.

“I’ve never behaved this badly before.” she confessed, waiting for an explanation.

Dunkin cleared his throat, “You’ve never had real competition before.  The blood causes our inner urges to surface.  That’s the trade off.  Enhanced strength, agility, speed, healing.  The only drawback, you become primal.  Wanting what you want.  Doing anything to get it.”

“You mean this stuff could make me evil?”

“No!” Jayce answered, “It’s not like that.  It just makes you,”

         “Dangerous.”  Tommy interrupted.

They all shot him an uneasy glance.

“Oh, dry up would ya Tommy.” Jayce scolded.

“No.” Dunkin said reassuringly, “It makes you think about what you want most, and makes you more determined to obtain it.  It’s not a bad thing really, especially when you’re not addicted to it, or its owner.”

Joe scoffed, “It’s not possible to not be addicted to it.”

“I’m not addicted to it.  Martin said…,”

“He lied!” Tommy informed her cruelly.

Mikey scribbled on his notebook, showing it to Dunkin as he did.

“Not necessarily.” Dunkin announced, “My mute friend here says it’s possible to not have the addictive properties if, its owner is no longer with us.  I didn’t even think about that.  An excellent deduction Mikey.”

“You mean if the vampire who gave the blood was dead?” Joe asked.

         “Yes, exactly!” Dunkin smiled.

“So, it’s possible that the addictiveness was removed, for lack of a better term, when the vampire was dusted?  Sounds plausible to me.” Billy shrugged.

“You should ask Martin about that.” Dunkin responded.

         “I will.” Adora agreed.

“So . . .  I guess that means she’s in, huh?” Jayce grimaced, sighing as he gave a half hearted shrug.

They all nodded to him, then turning to meet her gaze, they all smiled proudly.  Adora nervously fidgeted with her robe.

“You’re in!!” they shouted in unison.

They all sat down at the table, while Adora warmed them some blood.  She also grabbed a bottle of wine and some glasses.  “Pick your poison.”  she said, setting it all on the table.

They all reached for a drink as they began to discuss the facts of their mission.

“Ok so,” Jayce began, “we have three nights to come up with a working plan.  We have four nights till Marnus’ little Mardi Gras party.  So,”

“We need costumes!” Tommy blurted out.

“Dude!” Billy busted back at Tommy with a laugh, “We’re about to go up against an old malicious vamp who could destroy us all, and you’re worried about costumes?”

“Yeah, it’s a costume party.  We can’t just show up naked!” Tommy justified.

They all gave a good laugh, before returning to their planning.  The facts were these; Marnus had broken several laws in both the human and vampire world. Marnus had set up a blood factory.  Harvesting the blood of the city’s less desirable, working with other ghouled humans to get the job done.  When they were found out, they’d torch the building and everyone in it.  He was an elder vampire who had a large covenant of followers.  He was summoning more vamps here for some kind of ‘party’ asking everyone to wear masks, and he invited his two biggest adversaries.  Somehow he knew Adderson and Adora were together.  And an unknown number of hunters were gathering as well, and would be back any time to clean house.

“Well I don’t see any reason for you to go to this party Dunkin.” Jayce remarked in a serious tone.

“But I do so love a party.” Dunkin’s smile widening as he spoke.

“I know you do old friend but, jeopardizing your position as king is too much to risk right now.  You know it’s a trap.  No good would come from you being taken hostage or worse.  I think Adora here will definitely cause enough of a scene there.”

“I’m not worried about losing my position as king.  I’ve made my peace with death a long time ago.  And even if something does happen to me, I have a successor.  He’ll do great things when I’m gone.  But you can’t go in alone.” Dunkin insisted, worry staining his voice.

“He won’t be alone, Dunkin.” Billy reminded nodding to Adora, “And he’ll have us too.  We’ll go in your place, but you’ll have to stay here.”

Dunkin opened his mouth to respond, but Jayce interjected before he could get a word out.

“That’s a good idea.  Dunkin and Mikey could stay here or in the car.  Which means we have a ‘home base’ incase things go wrong.  Although should anything happen outside, you’ll have to run.” Jayce suggested.

Dunkin scoffed adjusting his jacket, then stated proudly, “I’ve never been one for running.”

“That’s the price we pay for having control, your majesty.” Billy said with a smile. “You are the leader of the East coast, which means you might have to run to stay alive and in power.”

“In my day a real leader stood his ground with his troops, and fought!” Dunkin growled.

“Yeah back when you were fighting saber-toothed tigers and men with clubs.” Joe said making everyone giggle.

“You’d do well to remember to respect your elders!” Dunkin barked back and the laughter seized.

Mikey scribbled on his pad again, slipping it to Dunkin when he had finished. It simply read:

The general who leads from the front is normally the first casualty!  That’s ‘sun Tzu‘’.

“Jayce you know him best.  What are our best options to defeat Marnus?  How do we take him down?” Billy asked taking the heat off Joe.

“Well, sunlight weakens him but, at this party I doubt we’ll have it anyways.  He prefers the underground. Stakes don’t harm him, his skins too hard to penetrate the chest, let alone the heart.”

“His skin’s too hard?” Adora asked, wide eyed.

“Yes.  The older we get the more like stone our skin becomes.  Making stakes no longer a problem.” Jayce informed.

“Really?” she pondered this thought for a moment, before Jayce began again.

“Fire is still always useful and there’ll be plenty of it hanging around.  He’ll have lots of candles for his parties.”

         “I remember.” Adora muttered quietly.

“So, fire, the old ripping him apart standby, and drinking him dry are our only options.”  Jayce stated matter-a-factly.

“Jayce you know you can’t do that.” Dunkin scolded in a loud whisper.

“Why?  Why can’t he do that?  Other vampires have done it before.  I’ve read about several accounts.  They claim it makes them stronger.” Adora interjected.

“Because my dear girl, when you drink the final drop of a vampire’s blood, you inherit their soul.  It does indeed make you more powerful but, most go insane from it.  Dual personalities, or sever changes to the personality, or thought patterns.  Worst part is that it takes months before you realize what’s happening.  It works slowly like a poison.”

Adora’s face went pale.  Her eyes on Jayce’s face were full of worry.

“Ah, Dunkin, now see what you’ve done?  You’ve scared her.” Billy said looking her over.

“No.  I’m informing her that Jayce’s little mention of drinking him dry would be a bad idea.” Dunkin said with his eyes on Jayce.

“I was just telling everyone about our options.  I didn’t mean anything by it.” Jayce smirked.

“Be sure that you don’t!” Dunkin murmured back.

Adora looked at the clock announcing, “Gentlemen it will be morning in about an hour.  I think it’s a good time to retire for the night.  If you’ll excuse me, I’ll go get you some bedding.”  she stood up from the table as they all expressed their thanks.  Walking out of her kitchen, down the hall to her linen closet.

“Dunkin?” Jayce asked in a low tone, “Do you really think she can handle this?”

“Well, she certainly handled me.” Tommy whispered back.

“No offense dude but, you’re a weakling compared to what we’re about to go against.”  Billy stated. Again causing them all to chuckle, at Tommy‘s expense.

“I was just saying she gets my vote.” Tommy muttered back.

“I’m sure she’ll do just fine.  The vamp blood she’s been ‘using’ seems to have a strengthening effect on her.  And she’s been training with one of the best hunters around.  So she’s tougher than most mortals.  I’m sure with that kind of edge; she’ll be a much unexpected adversary.” Dunkin remarked.

Mikey, after fumbling for his note pad, began to scribble quickly into it again.  When he finished he handed it to Jayce to be read aloud.

: Most of the mortals who are forced to drink our blood are still slaves.  Dependant on their owners, it normally makes them more obedient and physically powerful.  But, she doesn’t have the co-dependence.  Granted that’s because their probably dead, however, all the benefits?  None of the repercussions?  You could pretend she’s your slave at the party and no one would know the difference, or mess with her.  :

“That’s a great idea Mikey.” Jayce said giving Mikey a pat on the shoulder.

“Okay, I have a room in the basement, a guest room down the hall, a couch, and a few sleeping bags.  I hope that’s ok.” Adora announcing as she walked into the room. “Dunkin you might want to consider the basement.  It’s the safest room in the house.”

         “It’s true.” Jayce agreed.

“That sounds just fine to me.  Mikey and I will take that room.” Dunkin stood up and Mikey grabbed a sleeping bag and a pillow, before descending down the stairs.

“Joe and I will take the guestroom.” Tommy said as he hugged Adora goodnight. “Good moves there, by the way.”

Adora smiled as they got their stuff and went down the hall.

“I already pulled the drapes for you guys!” she called after them.  Yelling their thanks from down the hall, they closed their door.

“I guess I get the couch then.”  Jayce smiled, rising to his feet. Standing in front of one another they gazed into each other’s eyes.

“I’ll take the floor.” Billy commented taking a sleeping bag from Adora, kissing her on the cheek. “Thank you for your kindness.” he whispered, then walked into the living room.

Jayce not knowing what to say stood silently trying to find the right words of gratitude, and to say goodnight.  Quickly, his thoughts ran through his brain.  They froze when her gentle seraph voice whispered to him.

“Jayce? Would you come tuck me in?”

How could he refuse such a tempting offer?  Following her down the hall, his eye watched her hips, sway back and forth.  A wanting poured through his being like no other he’d ever felt.  Images flooding the mind, as arousal feverishly coursed through his cold body, warming it.  Trying to keep his composure, his control began fading fast as they entered the dark hall.

Opening the door, she stood holding it open as she crossed to the other side, waiting for him to follow her over the threshold. Jayce took a deep breath and entered the dim room.  Quietly closing the door behind him, she turned looking into his eyes.  Jayce glanced around the room before his eyes settled back on her.

“I’m sorry about earlier.” he said calmly. “I didn’t mean to be so, loud and judgmental.  It’s just…  I want to protect you from all this.  You’ve already endured so much.  But you’re right.  I shouldn’t leave you out of this completely.  However, I will be with you through it all, and any hint of danger towards you, you’re out of there.  Agreed?” he demanded.

“Agreed.” She answered, staring into his eyes, at the passion burning from within them.  “I’m sorry too.  I know you’re just trying to help.”

Her heart began racing in Jayce’s ear.  Her sent, lilies, becoming stronger.  Slowly she moved towards him.

         “Adora?” he spoke nervously.

         “Yes.”

“I’m not sure this is the best time to,” he paused as he watched her untie her robe, letting it fall to the floor, reviling her beautiful sculpted body.

Sauntering over to him, her hips swayed effortlessly. “What is it not the best time for Jayce?”  The whisper becoming more seductive the closer she got to him.

“Ah,” He stammered shoving a strong hand through his dark hair. “I’m not sure this ... I mean ... that this, this is the best time for … for, Um …that.”

Reaching up she ran her fingers through his hair gently pulling him towards her.  Sweet lips opening to him, her heart pounding in his ear.  Losing the battle, his arms wrapped around her waist, pulling her close, kissing her hard.  She could feel the warmth of his body pressing against hers, surprising her.

“Oh you’re so warm.” she breathed, removing his shirt.

“It’s you.” he smiled, “You do this to me.”

Pulling her close again, pressing her bare breasts to his toned chest.  Their lips pressing against each other’s, his tongue opened her mouth wider, while hers entangled his.  Her very kiss begged him to take her.

Jayce pulled himself away, leaving her breathless, “No.  It wouldn’t be right like this.  A few hours ago you were dying and now . . .” giving a frustrated sign he continued, “I can’t take advantage of you.”

A little giggle escaped her lips. “I thought I was the one taking advantage.”

“It’s the vampire blood.” he answered with a raspy sigh. “It intensifies emotions, uninhibited desire, heightens your sense of touch.”

         “Like ecstasy?” she mused.

“Yeah, like the drug, it conjures up our wants.” Slowly he backed away towards the door.

“But that’s just it.” Her sweet voice was now sultry and hypnotic, “It’s my want for you that’s uninhibited.  I’m alive and longing for your touch, for your skin, your body against mine.  This might be the only time we have to break this tension burning between us.  Our only chance to quench our thirst for each other.” she was against him again.  He could feel her moist breath against his lips, as she looked up into his eyes.  “You won’t be so distracted, if you’d just give in.  I’ll be safer and we’ll be more relaxed, and less likely to make a mistake.  Please Jayce,” she begged, “please.  It’s been so long. Make me feel like a woman again.”

Jayce, now caught between her and the door, looked deeply into her pleading green eyes.  She was right.  Their sexual tension was too strong and would cause distraction if left unattended.  He rationalized to himself.  Reaching up he cupped her cheek in his hand, caressing her full lips with his thumb.  He couldn’t say no to her now. . .

He grabbed a hold of the back of her neck, pulling her closer to him as his lips pressed against hers with vigorous, moist desire.  Quicker than a thought he turned them both around, pinning her to the door.  Letting out a soft moan, her back hit the rigid wood.  His lips falling against the top of her shoulder, lifting her hips up to meet his.  Adora’s smooth legs, wrapped tightly around him.  His arousal hardening against the heat of her sex, that longed to be filled by him.

Reaching down between them, she pulled harshly, unfastening the button on his pants.  Forcing the zipper down, freeing him into her hands.  Lithe fingers caressed and wrapped around his smooth thick organ, forcing him to release a deep moan.  Her strokes messaged him firm and slow.  Teasing and tantalizing his body.  Bringing about his sexual fever, that now burned hotter than ever before, throughout his entire body.  Strong hands hugging her soft firm bottom as she played.  Their kisses becoming more wild and passionate, as did her strokes.

Jayce seized hold of her firmly, causing her to release her grip.  With a low growl he swung her around tossing her on the bed.  Spreading her legs, to lap up the sweet nectar from her forbidden fruit.  Licking and thrusting as he sucked at its juices.  She writhed against the mattress letting out little moans and panting shallow breathes.  Nipples tightening with excitement as he ravaged her sex with him mouth, until she convulsed with the ecstasy of release.

Adora lay there shuddering, when he rose up, spreading her legs wider with him.  His hand hovered over her chest, allowing only his middle finger to touch the skin between her breasts, as he ran it slowly between them.  The touch lingered against her skin.  A tremble of pleasure rippled through her.  He smiled, bringing his mouth down against her nipples, suckling them each in turn.  Kissing up her body, driving her crazy as each cold breath sending tingles throughout her body.  Each sweet touch lingered for only a few seconds.  Taking his time to thoroughly kiss every spot his lips found.  Until he stopped, pausing at the base of her throat.  A rasping sigh escaped his lips against her ear.  His cold breath against her skin, titillated her. She moaned, her hips twisting against him.  Bringing his lips back to hers, slipping slowly into her causing her to gasp with surprise, until their hips met.

“Jayce,” she breathed as they moved their hips together.

“Yes.” he answered back with a shaky sigh.

         “Make me yours.” she mewled.

“You are mine Adora.  You‘ve been mine since the first time I saw you.  You‘ll always be mine.” his thrusts becoming faster, and more possessive.

Jayce watched her writhe and tremble beneath him.  His eyes fixed on her face.  He could hear her breathless moans, her heart racing, blood rushing, and little whimpers in between, forcing him to thrust harder and deeper into her.  The smell of sex filled his nostrils, the taste of her lingering on his tongue.  Causing the demon from within him to wake.  Wanting to taste her blood, his fangs lowered unwillingly.  Bringing his lips to her slender throat, he inhaled her sweet fragrance again.  Kissing her neck, hearing her pulse, feeling it against his lips, the blood rushed through her system.

         “Jayce,” she whispered in ecstasy.

He froze.  Her voice severing the link between him, and his animalist demon. He refocused, realizing what he was about to do.  Calming himself before, pulling away from her neck.  Looking into her eyes he asked, “What?”

“I love you.” fell from her lips.

         Jayce was stunned.

Adora’s nails digging into his back, as her back arched up pressing herself onto him.  Closing her eyes, she opened her mouth to release the heavenly sounds of another climax.  Pumping faster against one another, slick with sweat, Jayce finally let out a deep loud moan, empting himself into her.

Laying there trembling, panting, and studying each other’s faces.  Neither able to speak.  Jayce covered her with little kisses, fighting to keep his balance, to remain conscious, and, to keep the demon hidden.  Moving slowly from her, collapsing on the bed, he reached for her cigarettes on the nightstand, of which he lit two of.  She took one gladly from him, laying her head against his chest.  The cool skin felt good against her overly warm body.  Jayce caressing her arm as they lie there, smoking their cigs in silence.

“Jayce?” she said, extinguishing her cigarette, breaking the quiet.

“Yes my love.” he answered doing the same.

         “Thank you.”

Jayce smiled pulling her closer to him as he kissed her forehead. “For what?

“This. It’s been awhile for me.” her timid voice confessed.

“For me too.” Jayce smirked, “Not bad for being out of practice.”

“It really was good.” she giggled back, still in awe.

         “Definitely.”

“Jayce?” she asked, after finishing a little yawn, crept up on her.

         “Yes.”

“I’m so glad I saved you.” she whispered sleepily.

         “Me too.”
