A poem about a man's attempt to save his life

There’s a stranger at my door
He’s a knock knock knockin’
And I don’t know what he’s doin’
He’s just standin’ there a waitin’

There’s a cold wind a blowin’
And it’s callin’ out my name
There’s a stranger at my door
Who’s just waitin’ to get in

Now I know not about him
But he’s banging on my door
And he’s callin’ shoutin’ to me
“Let me in little lady
I am frightfully deathly cold”

“Go Away” I shout out to him
But he doesn’t budge an inch
“Stranger please let me alone now
For I shan’t let you in”

A loud thud on the door
And I see nothing more
There’s a blindin’ light a flashin’
No more stranger at the door

Now the ambulance arrived
I can’t imagine what has happened
For the stranger is now dead
With a bullet in his head

I am sorry now to say
The man a father of five he was
His children now all orphans
Swarmin’ ‘round me like little bugs

Too late it is to help him
Now I know what should have been done
But,
Three sons and two daughters
Now belong to me
