Soldiers

Men in pale tan,
stand before a flag of red and white;
Their heads held high
and their hands at
their eyes,

Many faces showing
nothing of what lays
behind their eyes

Their wives and children
show them off, for soon they will
walk in foriegn land
never knowing if
they will return awake and alive

The children losing
memory of their touch,
and wives always looking, always hoping

For her man in
uniform to come
and grasp her in his arms once more
