After having lost everything held dear. He is reaching out for hope
He stumbled out of bed,
Pulled on his shabby jeans.
He stared at the face in the mirror
Weathered and lined with pain

And
He wondered if he'd get back on his feet again?

He swallowed his cold black coffee
Then left for work.
He closed the door
And stepped out into the wind and rain

And
He wondered when he'd get back on his feet again?

He did his job,
Quietly guarding against the knives
Others aimed at his back.
He spent his day living with remorse and strain

And
He wondered how he could get back on his feet again?

At the end of the day
He ate his supper accompanied by the T V news
Comforted by his loneliness,
Guilt and shame.

And
He wondered why he couldn't get back on his feet again.

The lights off
His bedtime book laid aside
He lay and thought of her
Listening to the rain

And
He prayed would God help him to get back on his feet again?
