| Did you ever run up five flights of stairs with a dozen nervous guys behind you with drawn guns, some of them cocked, ready to fire? I did! Never again! If one of those cops tripped and accidentily fired the gun the bullet goes into the person in front of him. Maybe your partner or some other cop gets shot, wounded or crippled. I have seen it happen. I now play the perfect gentlemen, stepping aside, "After you," I say. Why everyone wants to get on the scene first is a mystery. There are no bonuses. No promotions. Is it a macho thing? Ever see a line of police cars ( maybe ten) chasing one car? What happens if the first the first car has to slam on the brakes? A collision! Cars wrecked! Men injured! Civilians hurt! Lawsuits! Happy Lawyers! If you don't get to this crime scene you are useless. You may even need medical attention! "Walk don't run!" is a good adage unless there is a fire. Then run like hell! |
