Deb is a poker dealer where I used to play Texas Hold'em. Over time and across the felt we became friends. Rapport and all of its synonyms fall shot of our relationship; she is a younger sister that can read my mind. Scary! When I was in more than a desperate need for a friend and someone to talk with, Deb filled the role. She is a person impossible to forget, and has loomed large in my life over the past few years. When anybody at the casino wants to know what is happening in my life, Deb is the only one with the answer. She is the only person in my life that has cared enough to advise, encourage, and call or text regularly. If I want to know what I am doing and how I am, I ask Deb.
When she arrives at the poker room for the day, I see her eyes scanning for me. Finding me, a beautiful smile with a warm hello is her gift to me. She has helped me sail some tough waters; she is the most unique of all my friends, throwing me a lifeline when she barely new me. The seas may take me to far away ports but I will always remember her. A sister but not, she occupies a most special place in my heart. I love her.
