A Love Meant to Be Forty years has past since that day they said I do Years of joy and laughter and a crazy fight or two Who would have thought at a skating rink in 1961 That a love of a lifetime had suddenly begun They met when he was 19 and ready to face the world She was just 16, not quite a woman, but not a little girl They knew they were meant to be almost from the start Because a love like theirs only comes from the heart Through all the years and all the tears Their love has been the key Through the good and the bad, the happy and sad Their love is easy to see Through the sorrow and pain, the sleet and the rain Their love is meant to be The hard times came and sometimes didn't seem to leave The world could be cruel and they were still naïve They had their love and they leaned on each other And soon they were to be a father and a mother Their little family grew and so did their love It was like something they'd never dreamed of Their children grew up safe and secure Knowing that their parents love would endure Through all the years and all the tears Their love has been the key Through the good and the bad, the happy and sad Their love is easy to see Through the sorrow and pain, the sleet and the rain Their love is meant to be Now oh so many years have gone past And they have proven their love will last Nothing on this earth will keep them apart There is no power that can stop the love in their heart They said the words for worse or for better They've shown that they belong together Forty years is such a long time But for them the time has just flown by Through all the years and all the tears Their love has been the key Through the good and the bad, the happy and sad Their love is easy to see Through the sorrow and pain, the sleet and the rain Their love is meant to be Sandra Showalter January 7, 2003 |
