Written for a Dog Rescue Newsletter onn adopting a rescue dog.
I remember the first day I met Suki. She walked through the door a little
confused, a little scared and panting heavily. Her coat was too long and too thin, her eyes seemed cloudy and a she was a bit on the plump side. That night, Suki sat on the edge of my bed scared to death. Regardless of all the books I read and people I spoke to I felt clueless, but I knew it would get better in time and I was right.

Everyday, I fall more in love with Suki, and our daily routine. I love how every morning she lies next to me and rolls on her back waiting for her morning belly scratch. I Love how when we go downstairs she licks my toes on every step. I love how she waits till I leave in the morning to run around the apartment to see if I left her a treat. I can only imagine what she's thinking when she sits on my lap with her little face resting on my stomach,
"I had such a rough day, I couldn't get that biscuit out of that Kong toy for the life of me...and someone knocked on the door which totally freaked me out!"

Everyday I learn something new about Suki. Her personality is constantly
unfolding. She has this attitude which I like to call, "Oh, I don't think so!"
Like when we get ready for a walk and it's pouring rain she'll stop dead
in her tracks look outside and quickly turn on her heel...
"Oh, I don't think so!"

Or when I tried to put little booties on her feet to protect her from the snow,
she pulled all 4 booties off and flung them across the room..."Oh, I don't
think so."

I often wonder is she happy? Does she remember her old life? She really
doesn't have to tell me. I see it, I see it in the thickness of her coat, the sparkle in her eyes, the bounce in her step and the random kiss on the end of my nose.

As for me, I really don't remember life before Suki. She makes me very
happy and I think she knows that, by the sparkle in my eye, the bounce
in my step, and the random kiss on the end of her nose.
