This is a free verse poem. I wanted to create something creepy, but fun. Enjoy!
                            Torment in the Night

In the darkness thick like fog and black as death,
the night entrances the moon and holds her enslaved.
Here I sit in my tiny room inside my tiny house.
I listen to the wnd howling through my ears,
the rain drumming on my brain.
Suddenly the thunder cracks like a smack across my skull.
The lightening flashes. I wonder, "Was that a face in my window?"
Sounds of mice scratching and clawing boom eternally.
The trees writhe like ghosts, groaning as they shudder in the storm.
An owl shrieks, a symbol of forewarning.
The bats spatter by, cackling, filling my existence with evil.
I hear a thud. A blow. I cry out, "Who's there?"
The clock chimes midnight.
The night air sighs, "It is too late."
The pounding in my heart shatters stillness,
keeping time with the music conducted by shadow.
A new sound fills me with horror, sending chills down my spine.
"What is it?" A gurgle escapes my throat.
A sharp bang, a gunshot? Then a petrified scream.
In panic, I freeze in my steps.
A screech spits in midair.
It dangles, filling the void with stillness.
My nightmare begins to materialize.
Breaking glass cascades like rain.
The only noise is rushing water, streaming crimson.
I grin twistedly.
The torment has ended.
