concerning the ability to write or maybe the lack thereof
This evening I sit and ponder,
at this writing ability that so many possess,
it's amazing when you take time to wonder,
at this rewarding yet perplexing process.

I've sat down and read,
the thoughts, ideas, and revelations,
of authors, both living and dead,
who take inked pen in hand,
leaving inspiration and examples for generations,
from works so small, to the masterpiece so grand.

When you take time to peruse,
the many different styles there are,
whether destined to instruct or amuse,
from authors near as well as far,
the results sometimes confuse,
what makes one mediocre and another a star?

What one finds sensational, appealing, or great,
the next might find lame, boring, or tame,
the point after all is for words to relate,
what the author feels worthy not just to create,
but also to rework, edit, and then name.

I know not if my words appeal to anyone at all,
I do thank each reader, who takes time to see,
Is the author answering his life's call?
Or perhaps a writer he should not be?

I relish the chance to express,
the rhymes that I compose, maybe too quickly,
Are my words worth the space, dare I guess?
Too timid, harsh, or the perfectionist would I be?
Should my lines contain more or less?
That's why I trust others to judge for me.
