Surviving the Storms of Life

Matthew 14:26-31---"And when the disciples saw Him (Jesus) walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying 'It is a ghost!' And they cried out for fear.
But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying 'Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.'
And Peter answered Him and said, 'Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.'
So He said, 'Come.' And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.
But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, 'Lord, save me!'
And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, 'O you of little faith, why did you doubt?"

We all have storms that come blowing through our lives from time to time---those storms might be financial problems, troubles with family or a loved one, health concerns, car trouble, and so forth. The storms of life can sometimes seem very overwhelming and we dont have a clue about how we are going to survive through it.
For a moment, Peter was walking on the water to Jesus--in the midst of a storm! Imagine that! But, what happened when Peter took his eyes off of Jesus and began looking at the strong wind? He began to sink.
We have a choice just like Peter. When we find ourselves in the midst of one of life's storms, we can either focus on the problems themselves and allow them to swallow us up in fear and misery---OR, we can focus on Jesus, focus on trusting Him and let Him hold us up above the sea of our troubles.
So for all my friends with storms in your lives, I encourage you to look to Jesus, give your cares to Him and let Him hold you up and bring you through the storm.
