2. The undead rise in hunger
The heavy electric fences shut tightly and secure behind Heather as she ran towards the entrance of the school building. The rain drenched her completely, her clothes clung to her petite frame, her long chestnut brown hair mated to her face giving a look of a wild mad woman. Heather glanced up at Greg with her fierce brown eyes that showed no hint of kindness what so ever. She shouted upwards at the roof, "I could have died and you just watched! Just because we dont see eye to eye, dosen't mean to neglect the oath we all made!'
Greg smirked and fliped her off and spit a wad of saliva over the roof aiming at Heather,"Well its a good thing for you that those bastards reek and make ah hell of noise. To bad that fat ass couldn't taste good'ol Grade A American meat. I had a hot meal and a day of sleep riding on your death." He ran his rough callous hand threw his short buzz cut and let a dry raspy laugh come out threw his dry cracked lips.
"You better pray that your never on that side of the fence." Heather looked away knowing that Greg's eyes were glued to the top her head wishing a death sentence. She pulled the large entrance door open and entered the warm halls of her home.
The halls of the building made her feel safe and at ease. She barely can recall how a soft plush bed felt or a actuall hot long bath was. It's been two years since the outbreak and when she fled her suburban home in Norridge from her dead parents.Heather slumped down against the wall and letting the 20lb back pack hit the floor with a loud thud. She rubbed her temples in circular motion and closed her eyes. All she could think of was that moment when tabloid gossip became reality in her home. All that month was a rumor of some air borne toxin that was making people sick and causing them to die and reanimate again after a few hours or in days.No reports gave information on where this toxin started or how. All she knew then, was that it was just media scare. A way to wake people up and get there blood boil and have a motive to gossip and buy all these commercial anti toxin antidotes and self help books.A skeptic she was until she had to pick up that iron rod and kill her best friend at seventeen.
Loud steps could be heard coming down the stair well in rows of echos. sounding very much like her in combat boots. The steps were harder and quicker." Are you all right Heather?" John held out his strong masculine hand towards Heather.
Heather took hold of John's hand and let herself be helped up to her feet. She noded and grabed the bag of can food."Im fine. Just needed a moment to regroup and rest." She glanced at Johnny and his facial expression screamed worried.
John took hold of the bag and slung it over his broad shoulders as if it weighed nothing."Come on. The others are waiting in the cafeteria to have chow. Tommorrow we can discuss what happend twenty minutes ago ." His blonde eyebrows creased giving a stern fatherly expression of concern.
