once again I present to you my contemplations
look East in the mornings
there is the sky of spring
of new beginnings and a
gentle breeze with the
scent of budding lavender
and sparkling April rains

look South into the daylight
and see the skies of June
cloudless and clear with
invitation to an endless world
beyond your feet and smell
the salty oceans, feel the lapsing waves

look West into the evenings
where lies the sky of sweet October
falling leaves with a dying era
soon to become cold with a frosty bite
and send the wind onward to carry
the leaves in its care

look North at night when
all is clear and there is the
sky of stars, where dreams
are endless and hope is boundless,
so reach up my child, reach beyond,
and fly away

when you’ve seen all the stars,
and the planets, and the moons,
when the sun’s fire has licked your toes,
and the comet’s tail has brushed your fingers,
and when you’ve ridden on the milky way

look back home in the last of
December’s days and journey
home to me, my child, and look into
the East where the coming days of a
new spring await you eagerly,
where the April rains fall and the lavender buds
