When the store ran out of...
40 Lines

The grocer stood
with hands on hips
and no words fell
from twixt his lips.
In fact it was me
who talked non stop
his shelves were bare
of soda pop!
My kids were crying
my husband...not
but the look on his face
showed he was hot!
His favorite drink
could not be found
flames of anger
glowed all around.
But the man just stood
and looked at us
I'm sure he wished
for a Greyhound bus.
A crowd of folks
had gathered round
to listen in
without a sound.

A silence fell
too thick for a knife
and the grocer feared
for his very life

the poor man stood
with a bowed head
till someone yelled
"Hey! Where's the bread?"
