For Mom. Happy Birthday and Happy New Year.
On New Year's Eve, we come to gather.
We have many reasons to cheer;
We celebrate the birth of my mother
with the arrival of the new year.

We have many reasons to cheer:
food, games and gifts galore.
With the arrival of the new year,
cavorting with loved ones comes to the fore.

Food, games and gifts galore-
we crowd around the chocolate fountain.
Cavorting with loved ones comes to the fore
as I mingle with parents, aunts and cousins.

We crowd around the chocolate fountain
with plates of birthday cake in our hands.
As I mingle with parents, aunts and cousins,
I hear them giggle and voice demands.

With plates of birthday cake in our hands,
we gorge on foodstuffs oh so yummy.
I hear them giggle and voice demands
to start a game of Michigan Rummy.

We gorge on foodstuffs oh so yummy
as we set up the card game board.
To start a game of Michigan Rummy,
we shuffle and deal all fifty cards.

As we set up the card game board,
I bring out the bubbly for our midnight toast.
We shuffle and deal all fifty cards,
but of our hands we dare not boast.

I bring out the bubbly for our midnight toast;
sparkling cider's the drink of choice.
Of our hands we dare not boast,
but a royal heart flush makes one rejoice.

Sparkling cider's the drink of choice
as the glittering ball sparkles on TV.
A royal flush makes one rejoice
and wonder if it shows what is to be.

As the glittering ball sparkles on TV,
we celebrate the birth of my mother
and wonder if it shows what is to be-
on New Year's Eve, we come to gather.
