Shaking false constructions of self imposed by significant others
The Big Lie

It’s all been a big lie,
I am shaken to the core;
The things I used to think of me,
I don’t think anymore.

It’s all been just a lie,
The images they impressed,
As bogus as the boogie man
I’ve set them all to rest.

It was all just a lie, I say!
That tangled and confined
That killed the spirit of a child
And wounded a woman’s mind.

Oh, what a lie they told;
I was-- they said-- no use.
And since I loved them senselessly
I didn’t see their ruse.

A mirror with a crack
They held before my face
Distorted truth stared back at me;
No goodness, love or grace.

They lied, they lied, they lied!
So glad that now I see
The lies of old no longer bind
The truth has made me free

The truth I've sought for ages
Has come to me at last,
The demons cast upon me,
Are lies left in my past.
