Sam answers the an unexpected phone call. |
Sam snatched her cell phone out of her jacket pocket, annoyed that it rang again. Didn’t her friends realize that minutes cost money? Oh most of them had a good plan with their parents, but she had to pay the cell phone bill alone. Her parents refused when she continually used up the family plan four months in a row. Sam flipped the silver razr open. “Hello,” she muttered. “Why haven’t you called?” Jenny asked. “I thought for sure you’d be calling to brag.” Sam frowned, she had no idea what her friend was talking about. “About what?” “Didn’t you submit your play list to the radio? They announced your name like five times already.” Sam stopped mid step, her heart raced as an excited squeal erupted from her throat. “They are? I’ll call you right back.” She pulled the phone from her ear and hit the end button. They were playing her songs on the radio. If they’d already announced her name five times, she was running out of time. It might already be too late. Sam punched in the number for her favorite radio station as her heartbeat thundered in her ears. She’d go crazy if she missed out on winning that prize. It couldn’t be too late. The phone rang, and then rang again. When no one answered by the fourth ring, her heart plunged and disappointment rushed through her. Finally, just as she was about to hang up, a voice was on the line. “Your radio 101.” “This is Samantha Roberts and you’re playing my iPod play list,” she said and prayed it wasn’t too late. “Ok, Samantha, can you name the five songs in your playlist?” Sam quickly rattled them off. “Congratulations, Samantha Roberts, you’ve won $1000. What’s your favorite radio station?” “My radio 101!” |
