A little blurb about some things I love, set into a narrative some years in the future. |
I Love By: SisterRook One year ago today, a man looked at me with love in his eyes and said ‘I do’. Today, we’re celebrating the first of many relationship landmarks. Our first anniversary. I don’t know what will happen today, I was simply told not to make plans, because dear Ray had something special planned. Most mornings, by the time I wake up Ray is already in the shower, so I’m alone in our bed. But this morning I woke up in his arms. It felt so wonderful to become aware of the world surrounded by his scent and his warmth. When he finally persuaded me to get out of bed, Ray placed a burnt disk into our stereo and sat me in the loveseat by our fireplace. Almost immediately I heard Celtic music, and I had to smile. Ray disappeared into the kitchen and soon I could smell bacon cooking. Before long, he was carrying out a plate heaped with bacon and a saucer of hot syrup; my most beloved breakfast. He was being so sweet, I couldn’t resist the urge to kiss him. Once we were both dressed he took me out to the canyon and we climbed up the rock face. It was a beautiful view, and a wonderful climb. Sometimes, as we reached up, we would try to grab the same handhold. He always let me go first, but somehow he reached the top before me. He hauled me up the last foot or so, and I gasped as I looked around. Right then, Ray stole my heart again. I knew without a doubt that he had picked this spot just for me, so great was its beauty. But it didn’t come close to the smile on his face. Soon after, he took me to the coast, to a beach house rented specifically for our anniversary. He produced two suitcases from the trunk and I had to laugh, he really did have everything covered. We changed into our swimming and went down to the beach, where we let the waves catch us and pull us under, and then broke free again. We roasted marshmallows at our bonfire as the sunset, and when the fire died inside, where he made the most delicious spaghetti for supper. Before I knew it, I was lying in Ray’s arms, with the steady beat of his heart and wash of the waves lulling me to sleep... |
