Bitter love

Green is the first color I see. It’s followed by blues, pinks, and reds. It hurts. Everything about her hurts.

It’s not that she does it on purpose, dear God no. After all, its her job to bring nice dreams to little kids, adults, and teens--and she does it well. It’s just that…nightmares and sweet visions can never meet. That’s the way it’s always been.

I sigh, watching from the sidelines. I try to shield my eyes against the brightness of it all, but my ears still catch her melody.

These type of dreams are not rare; hundreds of dreams start with a smile and end with a scream, though, it never gets any easier.

As usual, Idola doesn’t notice my presence. I have mixed feelings about that. I’m allowed to see her, but she’s not to know of my existence. It would taint her, they said. Ruin her. A sandman such as myself cannot interact with Idola.

I hate Idola--I hate what she stands for. Easy love, comfort and fairy tales. Things I only know through stories, not actions. No, all I know is fear, hostility, screams for mommy and daddy.

I’m tempted--oh so tempted to reach out and touch her. Oh, my touch would freeze her, cause panic to flood into her fresh green eyes for the first time. How she would tremble, how she would shriek! Everything would come crashing down. Her rainbows would crumble and turn grey, and that blasted music would seize and never again play. It’s easy, all I have to do is reach out, brush my fingertips against her glowing skin.

With a laugh, she’s gone. Gone to another dream. That shouldn’t make me happy--it should anger me, disgust me. I move from the white shadows and sniff the air, thankful that her strawberry scent remains. If I close my eyes, she’s there with me…in my arms…in love…

I shake my head as a growl grows inside me. Idola, I hate you. And because I hate you I go on stalking you when possible. Because I hate you, I go on trying to spoil your world. I want to break your sickeningly adorable smile with a kiss.

Because I hate you…
